CHAPTER FOURTEEN

THREE MODE NATURE Lord Krsna Said Now, Arjuna ,wisdom of wisdoms I preach, Knowing which, to perfection you will reach. \\1\\ Those who meditate on this knowledge, Always will stay with Me in My village. \\2\\ My Prakruti, I impregnate with vision, For every one’s birth, I am the reason. \\3\\ Whole universe is Prakruti’s child, Though many forms, names, does it wield. Jnanis see not Purusha n Prakruti different, As mother n father are one and coherent. \\4\\ 14/1 1

Goodness, passion, and ignorance, Three modes culminate in all humans. No entity is free of it’s influence, And forgets self’s original ambience. \\5\\ Mode of goodness is much superior, Making one wise, free and happier, But with a risk of contentment and ego, Causing further progress to forgo. \\6\\ Persons in passion mode desire and long Objects, which to sensual world belong, Are ever attached to fruitive actions, And subjected to miseries and reactions. \\7\\ Unhappy and dejected in darkness, Ignorant and lazy make no progress, Strive not for work or knowledge, Unclean, sinister acts do they pledge. \\8\\ Three modes condition everyone here. Goodness brings happiness and cheer. Passion increases greed and desire. Darkness deludes one to run haywire. \\9\\

Though modes do overpower one other, By practice they can be won over, Only true devotee is enlightened, And transcends three modes in the end. \\10\\ One, radiating serenity and knowledge, Enjoys, by grace My special privilege, And can see, hear and speak rightly, In goodness is shone up brightly. \\11\\ One that longs more, more and more, In passion, dips lower, lower and lower, And is attached to work and it’s fruit, For name and fame shuns the truth. \\12\\ Ignorant fools in illusion and delusion, Wrongly perceive, see, speak, feel and listen. \\13\\ Higher, one climbs in goodness, Freed, sees he all with oneness. In passion one is born again, And gets worth his bargain. One in darkness descends to hell, Must in miserable state he dwell. \\14\15\\

People in goodness are pious and joyous, But those in passion greedy and envious. Those in darkness kill animals and cows, Are born as worms in hell or a louse. \\16\\ Wisdom stems from goodness mode, Self realized souls come to My abode. Passion manifests desires and greed, From attachments they never are freed. As beasts, people in darkness behave, For poor animal’s flesh, they crave. \\17\\ People in goodness fly higher and higher, And in passion dive lower and lower, But in darkness sink to the lowest layer. \\18\\ Everyone is bound by material nature, Attachment, bondage darken their future, But, those who transcend them all, Come to Me and never again fall. \\19\20\\ Arjuna asked My Lord, what are the symptoms of guys, Who beyond material qualities rise?

What do they do? How they overpower? Want to know their thoughts and behavior! \\21\\ Sri Krsna said He hates not effects of them, Cares neither name or fame. He treats them all one and same, Maintains self and be never lame. Detached from desire and greed, From anger and hatred is freed. \\22\\ Knows three modes alone are active And Self is neutral and non-reactive. Cool, always chants My name, Ever enjoys spiritual game. \\23\\ Happiness or distress never do they deflect, See equal a piece of gold or earthen goblet, Loss or gain, happiness or sorrow, Honor or dishonor, friend or foe. \\24\\ Heat or cold, happy or sad, Never abhor they good or bad. Shun all actions of material happiness, They go beyond nature with oneness. \\25\\
