November 2 – All Saints Sunday Scripture: Matthew 5:1-12 I John 3:1-3 Sermon: “What Makes a Saint?” Theme: Short answer: God makes a saint. Long answer: we become saints through learning to live as God’s children and by letting ourselves be formed in the image of Christ. The beatitudes and their statement of who is “blessed” is a description of the kind of life that forms one as a saint. Video: Bill. White roses are a theme for the remembrance of those who have died. Images of saints (there are some great modern icons that would work well). Meditate on the images provided in the beatitudes Music: Opening Hymn – 711 “For All the Saints”, idea: Round “Behold what Love” (I John 3:1) Note: We will do communion with sung responses again. Lets use the same music, only pick up the speed (talk to me if this is a problem for the choir)

Lord of the Dance

I danced in the morning when the world was begun, and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth. At Bethlehem I had my birth.
I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee, but they would not dance and they would not follow me; I danced for the fishermen, for James and John; they came to me and the dance went on.
Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. And I'll lead you all wherever you may be, and I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.
Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. And I'll lead you all wherever you may be, and I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.
I danced on the sabbath when I cured the lame, the holy people said it was a shame; they whipped and they stripped and they hung me high; and they left me there on a cross to die.
I danced on a Friday and the sky turned black; it's hard to dance with the devil on your back; they buried my body and they thought I'd gone, but I am the dance and I still go on.
Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. And I'll lead you all wherever you may be, and I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.
They cut me down and I leapt up high, I am the life that'll never, never die; I'll live in you if you'll live in me; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he.

O Lord, you're beautiful, your face is all I seek; and when your eyes are on this child, your grace abounds to me. O Lord, you're wonderful, your touch is all I need; and when your hand is on this child, your healing I receive. O Lord, you're beautiful, your face is all I seek; and when your eyes are on this child, your grace abounds to me.
Jesus, name above all names, beautiful Savior, glorious Lord. Emmanuel, God is with us blessed Redeemer, living Word.

The Lord be with you.
And also with you. Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn.
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
All honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and forever.
Amen.

Come, Share the Lord
#2269
We gather here in Jesus' name, his love is burning in our hearts like living flame; for through the loving Son the Father makes us one:
No one is a stranger here, everyone belongs; finding our forgiveness here, we in turn forgive all wrongs.
Come, take the bread; come, drink the wine; come, share the Lord.
He joins us here, he breaks the bread, the Lord who pours the cup is risen from the dead; the one we love the most is now our gracious host:
We are now a family of which the Lord is head; though unseen he meets us here in the breaking of the bread.
Come, take the bread; come, drink the wine; come, share the Lord.

We'll gather soon where angels sing; we'll see the glory of our Lord and coming King; now we anticipate the feast for which we wait:
Come, Share the Lord
Come, take the bread; come, drink the wine; come, share the Lord. #2269
End
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Doxology p95
