This Thursday, November 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints a Holy Day of "Opportunity" (and Obligation!). Mass will be celebrated at the usual Thursday time of 12:30 p.m.

All Souls- Remembering Our Deceased Loved Ones Traditionally, the month of November has been a special time for the Church to remember its deceased loved ones. So that we may keep your dear ones in prayer, we invite you to write the names of your beloved dead in the Book of Remembrance. This Book will be in the atrium until All Souls Day, this Friday, November 2, when it will be blessed at the 12:05 p.m. Mass. We also invite you to bring pictures and mementos of your loved ones for a special display near the Book of Remembrance. The Paschal Candle, symbol of Christ’s resurrection over death, will be lit near the book each time we celebrate the Eucharist during the entire month of November. Next Step Retreat. Students from the Catholic Center gathered with Fr. Dave and Michelle at the beautiful Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary for the “Next Step” retreat. This three-day retreat focused on discerning life’s big questions: Should I change my major? Do I have a religious calling? Is this the right relationship for me? The weekend included morning and evening prayer, discussion about discernment and call and guest speakers shared their own call stories with the retreatants. We want to thank speakers, Ray and Joanne Sanders, Patty Collier, Sr. Shel Balek and Br. Matthew McKenna. We also want to thank the resident community who so generously cooked all the weekend meals. The meals were amazing. First thanks go to Paulette Gravois who organized the Chefs. The Chefs were Jim and Ora Shay and Mary; Elizabeth Montoya and Katie; Mary Lea McAnally and Brit Pasloske and Kay; Amy, Michael; Kristen, Catherine and Matthew Burkhart; Tammy Russell; Bill Peña and Richard Gravois. Thanks to all who helped make our retreat a success!

The Lord hears the cry of the poor.

The experience provides assistance to existing Austin care organizations. We will give direct service to families and individuals; look at policy issues; explore educational concerns; housing issues; legal and political ramifications that surround a single poverty issue. For more information attend one of the two info sessions on Sunday, November 4th after the 8pm Mass or Tuesday, November 6th, at 7pm. Compass Bible Study! Meeting on Thursday nights from 7-8 pm in the Mother Teresa Room, Compass is a fun and laidback way to read scripture and get a little more out of Mass. Every week we spend an hour discussing the next Sunday’s readings and sharing our faith. We are student run, student led, and totally low time commitment, so drop by whenever you can. Come hang out with us this Thursday!
