Youth Bible Study 2009 The Ten Commandments Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that God is giving you Opening Questions What is the blessing of having parents? (Think of those that don’t) Who has to sacrifice more, parents or children? (Hurts me more than it hurts you) Man & Wife is to God and Church as Parents & Children is to ________________ HONOR The ACTION verb of this commandment. This usage carriers the though of respect that an inferior gives to a superior. But does this mean that some are worth more than others? (different gifts, different functions) Reverence What does this word mean? ________________ To Parents-Lev 19:3, Rom 13:7, 1 Pet 2:18 To God-John 8:49, 1 Tim 1:17, Heb 2:9 What is the difference? How do you distinguish them? Our reverence for parents is not in spite of our reverence to God, but because of it. What happens when your parents command you to act in a way that is against God’s will?
