A Look Back

trouble won’t wouldn’t knife knight wrestle knock listen knee castle aunt Australia

I am glad to be back after being gone a few days this week. Initially the plan was to be gone on Wednesday afternoon for a meeting. It turned into being gone on Monday and Tuesday because of getting sick and then still needing to be gone for a meeting Wednesday afternoon. I guess that just goes to show (mainly me) that even the best laid plans don’t go as planned. Hopefully I am back to business, as usual. I am hoping even more that your families don’t get sick any more than what has already hit our classroom. In math this week we focused on word problems

and learning how to determine what type of problem we were dealing with. We practiced a lot! So much so that I said we wouldn’t have a check up. I really want to know that the students know what they are doing with these problems before moving on the other types of math and more word problems. During reading the students read books about Thomas Jefferson. These are great books and provoke some thoughts. I had several questions about him that stemmed from these books. We focused mainly on main idea, sequence of events, and building prior knowledge.

Writing this week concentrated on favorite holiday and the water cycle. We will need to continue writing on both of those next week. There will not be a spelling pre-test next week since we start the week on Wednesday.

Classroom Rule:

No arguing or back talking

A Peek to Next Week Next week will be extremely short! We’ll have a lot to do though. In math we will introduce multiplication. We initially start with multiplication as repeated addition or

skip-counting. We’ll soon be starting our time multiplication tests. More information will be coming home on that later. During reading we will again be concentrating on short sto-

ries and using the Star Method that the students showed you during conferences. We will also continue working on our water cycle writing prompts.
