STRATFORD HALL PLANTATION Stratford Hall Plantation was the home of four generations of the Lee family of Virginia. They include Revolutionary war hero, “Light Horse Harry” Lee, two signers of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, and Confederate General-in-Chief Robert E. Lee. Step back to the 1700’s and ride the trails with General Robert E. Lee as you ride the magnificent trails of this plantation. Ride over the working farm that is much the same as it was in the eighteenth century. Enjoy the spectacular view of the Potomac river from the cliffs. Look for the ever present wildlife that abounds here, including the majestic bald eagle. Step back in time to an unhurried time as you ride past the Mill where corn was ground or past the Devon cattle that were original to the plantation. Built in C. 1738, the house at Stratford Hall is considered one of the great houses of American history. Its magnificent setting on a high bluff above the Potomac River and its bold architectural style set it apart from any other colonial houses. DIRECTIONS Stratford Hall Plantation is located just off State Route 3 on State Route 214, six miles northwest of Montross, Va. and 42 miles east of Fredericksburg, Va. Directions from Washington Take I-95 South to Va. Rt. 3 East (exit 130A on I-95) in Fredericksburg. Follow Rt. 3 for about 45 miles, and then take a left onto Rt. 214 at Lerty, Va. Follow Rt. 214 for 2 miles. Stratford’s gate is on the left. Directions from Maryland Take U.S. Rt. 301 South, crossing the Potomac River Bridge into Va. Go approx. 10 miles; turn left onto Va. Rt. 3. Follow Rt. 3 for 20 miles, then turn left on Rt. 214 at Lerty, Va. Go 2 miles, Stratford’s gate on left

Directions from Richmond Take Rt. 360 East to Warsaw, Va. In Warsaw, Take Rt. 3 West to Montross, Va. From Montross, continue on Rt. 3 five miles to Lerty, turn right onto Rt. 214. Stratford’s gate is 2 miles on the left.
