CIT Paper 3 (Coursework) Module D: Social Networking Web Site

Warning  With effect from the 2009 exam, the word “UNCLASSIFIED” will

be printed in the SBA component (i.e. Coursework) on the result notices for candidates who fail to submit coursework to the Authority. If such candidates do not sit any of the written papers, they will be regarded as absent from the subject, irrespective of whether their coursework or SBA scores have been submitted to the Authority before the examination. In such cases, the word “ABSENT” will be printed against the subject on the result notices and the subject will not be listed on the certificates.  This change will not affect the overall subject grade of the candidates.

Part 1: 40%  Part 2: 60% 

Scenario  A school wants to set up a social networking

web site for its alumni. Candidates are required to make a proposal to the school.

Hint  What is social networking web site? 

Reference:  

Requirement (1)  2 existing social networking web sites:

Compare the major features  Discuss the corresponding design factors 



Encourage users to use the functions provided by the web sites

Hint  Existing social networking web sites:    

MySpace Facebook Friendster Etc.

 Ask yourself:   

What are some common functions among these? How can these functions attract you? How can the designs of these sites attract you?

Requirement (2)  Design and create the layout of some web

pages of the web site using HTML 

At least five social functions 



Facilitate communication among the alumni

Multimedia elements and user-friendly access mechanisms 

Considered to attract more alumni to visit the web site
