Kentucky – 3rd District Candidate Funds On Hand Recent Poll

Democrat

Republican

John Yarmuth $610,000 46%

Anne Northup $1,555,000 47%

Anne Northup is frequently targeted by national Democrats, and this year is no exception. John Yarmouth is looking to take advantage of a poor climate for Republicans and take back this swing seat. The Cook Political Report ranks this race “Lean Republican.” The District This mostly urban district includes the city of Louisville and its suburbs. It’s a swing district, voting for Gore and Kerry even as Bush took the state in 2000 and 2004. Democrats outnumber Republicans in registration. The Kentucky GOP has been shaken by scandals, including the indictment of Gov. Ernie Fletcher on official corruption charges, and Bush has fallen to 42% approval since his 2004 victory in the state. About John Yarmuth Yarmuth is well-known in the district as editor of the LEO, a weekly newspaper, and founder of Louisville Today magazine. He has also served as a senatorial aide and vice-president at the University of Louisville. His platform focuses on education, health care, and an exit strategy in Iraq. www.yarmuthforcongress.com About Anne Northup First elected in 1996, Northup has frequently seen strong challenges. In 2002, only a strong Republican tide helped her win a 52% victory over Jack Conway; she also netted similar totals in 2000 and 1998. She chairs the GOP’s research committee on Social Security and chaired a similar panel that created the controversial “Medicare Part D.” She’s also a supporter of GOP energy policy. www.northupforcongress.com Fundraising and Polling Northup has brought in almost $2.2 million, and has $1.9 million on hand. Yarmuth has raised $855,000; a close primary has left him with $418,000 on hand. Yarmuth’s polling shows a dead heat. A poll released in June had Northup ahead by a statistically insignificant 47-46.
