Idaho – 1st District Candidate Funds On Hand Recent Poll

Democrat

Republican

Larry Grant $65,154 38%

Bill Sali $43,439 34%.

In this historically arch conservative district, the race is polling within the margin of error, and the RNCC is dumping cash into last minute adds. Get-out-the-vote efforts, such as Call for Change, can tip the race in either direction. The District

Idaho’s First District runs for 500 miles from the Canadian border to Nevada. It’s a traditional Republican stronghold, which Bush carried with 69% of the vote in 2004. Republicans outnumber Democrats in among registered voters by 2 to 1. About Larry Grant

Larry Grant is a former high-tech executive from Boise, is running an intense grassroots campaign with a heavy emphasis on door to door canvassing. He’s running on a platform of supporting federal investment in job creation, education, and health care, while opposing the illegal eavesdropping of American citizens, and supporting a new strategy in Iraq to end our occupation. www.grantforcongress.com About Bill Sali

Mr. Sali, a current State Representative is strongly disliked even by many of his Republican colleagues. The Republican Speaker of the Idaho House said of Sali, “He doesn’t have one ounce of empathy in his whole fricken body, and you can put that in the paper.” Mr. Sali’s signature political issue is his militant opposition to reproductive rights. He habitually links abortion to breast cancer, even though the National Cancer Institute has consistently found no such connection. His politicization of women’s health issues has cost him the support of many of Idaho’s women voters. Fundraising and Polling

The National Republican Congressional Committee has pledged about $375,000 for ads in the last few days. That is approximately equal to Grant’s fundraising total for his entire campaign. With a 5.7 percent margin of error, a recent poll found Democrat Larry Grant leading with 38 percent – and Republican Bill Sali with 34 percent, with 25% of the electorate still undecided.
