Writing Writing Lab Lab Reports Reports
Writing Lab Reports • Title Page – Title of lab – 1 picture – Your name
• Introduction – a summary, in your words, of what the lab was – THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS WRITING THE PROCEDURE!
Writing Lab Reports • Purpose • Materials – list ALL materials used in the lab. Ask yourself the question: “What is everything I used in order to gather my data for this lab?” • Testable Question – simply turn your purpose into a question • Testable Answer – Answer your testable question. Do not use the word “because”. If you do then that means that you are giving me a reason why.
Writing Lab Reports • Science Research – provide 2 paragraphs (2-3 sentences) for EACH science-related term listed in the lab. – 1st paragraph – defining paragraph – 2nd paragraph – tell how term relates to lab
• Procedure – tell “what you did to gather your data”. List it in easy to follow steps. Write the procedure in enough detail so that someone could repeat EXACTLY what you did by reading your procedure and get the same results (within reason).
Writing Lab Reports • Data / Graphs • Discussion – Conclusion – was your testable answer correct or incorrect based on your data? – Explanation of Results – provide examples from your data that support that your testable answer was indeed correct or that shows why it was incorrect
