SPEED UP UR ACROBAT READER (ALMOST LIKE NOTEPAD) Do you get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open a PDF document. There is a way to speed up the loading. 1. Go to the installation folder of Acrobat Reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\... whatever) OR 2. Move all the files and folders from the "plug_ins" directory to the "Optional" directory. (I repeat... cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste). Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open.
Some different versions (like Acrobat6.0 Professional) follow (C:\programfiles\adobe\acrobat\acrobat). Create a folder and rename it “Optional”. Move all the files and folders from the "plug_ins" directory to the "Optional" directory. Now your acrobat reader will load very fast and almost as good as notepad.

Troubled by IE crashing unexpectedly for no reason? Launch it in its own process. If you have seen it happening, you must hate it. You are working on something important and out of no where an error is reported in iexplorer.exe and all instances of Internet explorer close . Isn't this painful? Well sure it is, but what can you do (???) Well you can do some thing. That’s not the perfect solution but may be a good workaround till we achieve perfection. Open registry (by going to START-RUN and entering regedit) and navigate to: -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Windows\Current Version\Explorer & add a new string by the name "BrowseNewProcess" and set its value to "yes". That’s all. Hey this takes more memory but for those who can afford it offers a solution.

A Faster Start Menu I see no reason for there to be any delay when I click on the Start Menu. Effects are pretty, but I wouldn’t click on it if I didn’t have business inside, so let’s get it open and get moving. The default speed can be adjusted with a quick registry entry. The default value is 400. Set it to 0 and the delay is gone, but it will be nearly impossible to move the mouse fast enough not to activate [All Programs] if You mouse over it in route to your final selection. It's easy to train yourself to move the pointer to the right after clicking Start to avoid activating All Programs. Pick a number that suits your style and make the change, then test it until you find a good compromise between speed and usability. Automatic Logon to Windows XP Convenience is one of the major reasons this tweak has become so popular. However, with convenience there is a price, and in this case that price is a lack of security. Due to the way it is implemented, anyone with local or remote access to the computer can easily navigate to the registry key and find out your password since it's stored as a plain text string. You've been warned.

WHY DO INSTALL PROGRAMS ASK ME TO CLOSE EVERYTHING ELSE?
When you install software on your machine, you are usually asked to close the other running. 1) Some install programs require you to reboot your operating system when the install is done. So, you would have to close the other programs down anyway. 2) Some install programs may modify parts of the programs currently running, and may even modify part of your operating system. You may think, "Hey, I'm running a word processor. Why should installing a spreadsheet require me to close my document?" Unfortunately, with today's world of programs consisting of dozens, perhaps hundreds of pieces, there may be code shared by your word processor and the spreadsheet that you are trying to install. 3) What if the install program crashes? Installer programs are notorious for modifying key Operating system components. They might modify something that causes your system to Crash and any work you may have done in your currently open applications would be lost. So play it safe - close down other applications before running installers.

How can I configure TCP/IP settings from the Command Prompt? Configure interfaces Configure routing protocols Configure filters Configure routes Configure remote access behavior for Windows-based remote access routers that are running the Routing and Remote Access Server (RRAS) Service Display the configuration of a currently running router on any computer. Use the scripting feature to run a collection of commands in batch mode against a specified router. What can we do with Netsh.exe? 1. netsh interface ip show config With Netsh.exe, you can easily configure your computer's IP address and other TCP/IP related settings. The following command configures the interface named Local Area Connection with the static IP address 192.168.0.100, the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and a default Gateway of 192.168.0.1 Netsh.exe can be also useful in certain scenarios such as when you have a portable computer that needs to be relocated between 2 or more office locations, while still maintaining a specific and static IP address configuration. With Netsh.exe, you can easily save and restore the appropriate network configuration.
First, connect your portable computer to location #1, and then manually configure the required settings (such as the IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS and WINS addresses). Now, you need to export your current IP settings to a text file. Use the following command:
netsh -c interface dump > c:\location1.txt When you reach location #2, do the same thing, only keep the new settings to a different file: netsh -c interface dump > c:\location2.txt
You can go on with any other location you may need, but we'll keep it simple and only use 2 examples. Now, whenever you need to quickly import your IP settings and change them between location #1 and location #2, just enter the following command in a Command Prompt window
netsh -f c:\location1.txt OR netsh -f c:\location2.txt and so on. You can also use the global EXEC switch instead of -F:
netsh exec c:\location2.txt Netsh.exe can also be used to configure your NIC to automatically obtain an IP address from a DHCP server:-
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp Would you like to configure DNS and WINS addresses from the Command Prompt? You can. See this example for DNS:-
netsh interface ip set dns "Local Area Connection" static 192.168.0.200 This one for WINS:
netsh interface ip set wins "Local Area Connection" static 192.168.0.200
Or If you want, you can configure your NIC to dynamically obtain it's DNS settings:
netsh interface ip set dns "Local Area Connection" dhcp As you now see, Netsh.exe has many features you might find useful, and that goes beyond saying Even without looking into the other valuable options that exist in the command.
How to Use the Netsh.exe Tool and Command-Line Switches Netsh.exe is a tool an administrator can use to configure and monitor Windows-based computers at a command prompt. With the Netsh.exe tool, you can direct the context commands you enter to the appropriate helper, and the helper then carries out the command. A helper is a Dynamic Link Library (.dll) file that extends the functionality of the Netsh.exe tool by providing configuration, monitoring, and support for one or more services, utilities, or protocols. The helper may also be used to extend other helpers. MORE INFORMATION You can use the Netsh.exe tool to perform the following tasks: • Configure interfaces. • Configure routing protocols. • Configure filters. • Configure routes. • Configure remote access behavior for Windows-based remote access routers that are running the Routing and Remote Access Server (RRAS) Service. • Display the configuration of a currently running router on any computer. • Use the scripting feature to run a collection of commands in batch mode against a specified router. The syntax for the Netsh.exe tool is:
netsh [-r router name] [-a AliasFile] [-c Context] [Command | -f ScriptFile] To display a list of sub contexts and commands that can be used in a context, type the context name followed by a space and a ? at the netsh> command prompt. For example, to display a list of subcontext and commands that can be used in the /routing context, type routing? at the netsh> command prompt, and then press ENTER. Contexts Context strings are appended to the Netsh.exe tool command and are passed to an associated helper. The helper may have one or more entry points that map to contexts. Some of the contexts available in the Netsh.exe tool are: Context Command: /dhcp Result: Changes to the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) context. Context Command: /ras Result: Changes to the Remote Access Server (RAS) context. Context Command: /routing Result: Changes to the routing context.
Context Command: /wins Result: Changes to the Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) context. Contexts may also nest within other contexts. For example, the following contexts operate within the netsh>ras context: Context Command: /ip Result: Changes to the Internet Protocol (IP) context. Context Command: /ipx Result: Changes to the Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) context. Context Command: /netbeui Result: Changes to the NetBios Enhanced User Interface (NETBEUI) context. The following sub contexts operate within the netsh>routing ip context: Context Command: /autodhcp Result: Changes to the autodhcp subcontext. Context Command: /dnsproxy Result: Changes to the dnsproxy subcontext. Context Command: /igmp Result: Changes to the Internet Group Membership Protocol (IGMP) subcontext. Context Command: /mib Result: Changes to the Management Information Base (MIB) subcontext. Context Command: /nat Result: Changes to the Network Address Translation (NAT) subcontext. Context Command: /ospf Result: Changes to the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) subcontext. Context Command: /relay Result: Changes to the relay subcontext. Context Command: /rip Result: Changes to the Routing Information Protocol (RIP) subcontext. Netsh.exe Commands The following additional commands can be used with the Netsh.exe tool: NOTE: Optional parameters are shown in brackets ([ ]). Alternative entries are shown with a pipe (|) Character between them.
Context Command: /? Result: Displays help. Context Command: /abort Result: Discards any changes made in offline mode. No effect in online mode. Context Command: /add helper DLL-name Result: Installs the helper .dll file in netsh.exe. Context Command: /alias [alias-name] [string1] [string2 ...] Result: If /alias, lists all aliases. If /alias alias-name, displays the equivalent string. If /alias aliasname string1 string2 ..., sets alias-name to the specified strings. Context Command: /bye Result: Exits the program. Context Command: /commit Result: Commits any changes made in the offline mode to the router. No effect in the online mode. Context Command: /delete helper .dll file name Result: Removes the helper .dll file from Netsh.exe. Context Command: /dump -file name Result: Dumps or appends configuration to a text file. Context Command: /exec script file name Result: Loads the script file and executes commands from it. Context Command: /exit Result: Exits the program. Context Command: /h Result: Displays help. Context Command: /help Result: Displays help. Context Command: /offline Result: Sets the current mode to offline. Any changes made in this mode are saved, but require a "commit" or "online" command to be set in the router. Context Command: /online Result: Sets the current mode to online. Any changes in this mode are immediately reflected in the router. Context Command: /popd Result: Pops a context from the stack. Context Command: /pushd Result: Pushes current context onto the stack.

NETSH Command to Change from Static IP Address to DHCP in Win 2K You can use the netsh command in Windows 2000 to script the process of changing a computer from a static Internet Protocol (IP) address to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or vice versa. The netsh command accomplishes this task without the need to restart the computer. This feature is particularly useful for laptops that move from one environment to another, when it is necessary to use statically assigned IP addresses at one location and DHCP assigned IP addresses at another.
More Information:To switch the specified adapter from a static address to DHCP, type the following command: netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp NOTE:Typing this command changes the interface named "Local Area Connection" to DHCP. To display all of the adapters in the computer with their current IP addresses to determine the correct Adapter name, type the following command:
Netsh interface ip show config To change to a static address, type the following command: netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static ip address subnetmask gateway metric
Note:Replace ipaddress with the static IP address, subnet mask with the subnet mask, gateway with the default gateway and, if necessary, metric with the appropriate metric. The following example changes the interface "Local Area Connection" to a static address of 192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and the interface has a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 with a metric of 1: netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static
192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1.1
How to determine and recover from Winsock2 Corruption Symptoms
When you try to release and renew the IP address by using the Ipconfig program, you may receive one of the following error messages. 1: -An error occurred while renewing interface 'Internet': An operation was attempted on Something that is not a socket. 2: -An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: the requested service Provider could not be loaded or initialized. 3: -When you start Internet Explorer, you may receive,” The page cannot be displayed.” 4: -When you use your computer, Initialization function INITHELPERDLL in IPMONTR.DLL failed to start with error code 10107 Additionally, you may have no IP address or no Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) Address and you may be receiving IP packets but not sending them.

Manual steps to determine whether the Winsock2 key is corrupted To determine if the symptoms are caused by a problem with the Winsock2 key, use the following. Use the Msinfo32 program Note: - Use this method only if you do not have a Windows XP Setup CD and you do Not have Support Tools installed. 1. Click Start; click Run, type Msinfo32, and then click OK. 2. Expand Components, expand Network, and then click Protocol. 3. You will have ten sections under Protocol. The section headings will include the following names if the Winsock2 key is undamaged:
• MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP] • MSAFD Tcpip [UDP/IP] • RSVP UDP Service Provider •RSVP TCP Service Provider •MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip... •MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip... •MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip... •MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip... •MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip... •MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip... If the names are anything different from those in this list, the Winsock2 key is corrupted, or you have a third-party add-on, such as proxy software, installed. If you have a third-party add-on installed, the name of the add-on will replace the letters "MSAFD" in the list. If there are more than ten sections in the list, you have third-party additions installed. If there are Fewer than ten sections, there is information missing. Note: - These entries represent an installation with only the TCP/IP protocol installed. You can have a working Winsock and see additional entries if another protocol is installed.

How to crack any type of software protection Identifying the protection Run the program, game, etc., (Software X) that you want to crack without the CD in the CD reader. SoftwareX will not run of course, however, when the error window pops up it will give you all of the vital information that you need to crack the program, so be sure to write down what it says.
Cracking the protection Now, run Win32Dasm. On the file menu open DISASSEMBLER > OPEN FILE TO DISASSEMBLE. Select Software X’s executable file in the popup window that will appear (e.g. SoftwareX.exe). W32Dasm may take several minutes to disassemble the file. When W32Dasm finishes disassembling the file it will display unrecognizable text; this is what we want. Click on the String Data References button. Scroll through the String Data Items until you find Software X’s error message. When you locate it, double click the error message and then close the window to return to the Win32Dasm text. You will notice that you have been moved somewhere within the Software X’s check routine; this is where the error message in generated. Now comes the difficult part, so be careful. To crack Software X’s protection you must know the @offset of every call and jump command. Write down every call and jump@offset number that you see (You have to be sure, that the OPBAR change its used color to green). You need the number behind the @offset without the “h.”Now open HIEW, locate Software X’s executable, and press the F4 key. At this point a popup window will appear with 3 options: Text, Hex, and Decode. Click on “Decode” to see a list of numbers. Now press the F5 key and enter the number that was extracted using Win32Dasm. After you have entered the number you will be taken to Software X’s check routine within HIEW. To continue you must understand this paragraph. If the command that you are taken to is E92BF9BF74, for example, it means that the command equals 5 bytes. Every 2 digits equal one byte: E9-2B-F9-BF-74 => 10 digits => 5 bytes. If you understood this then you cans continue. Press F3 (Edit), this will allow you to edit the 10 digits. Replace the 5 bytes with the digits 90. In other words, E92BF9BF74 will become 9090909090 (90-90-90-90-90). After you complete this step press the F10 key to exit.
Congratulations! You just cracked Software X! Don’t panic if Software X will not run after you finished cracking it. It only means that something was done incorrectly, or perhaps Software X’s protection technology has been improved or created after this tutorial. Simply reinstall Software X and start over. If you’re sure that you completed all steps correctly and the program still will not run then tough nuts…..!

FAT32 OR NTFS: MAKING THE CHOICE Choosing the file system to use on a Windows XP system is seldom easy, and frequently it's not just a one time decision. Different factors can blur the decision process, and some tradeoffs are more than likely. No matter what method you choose to adopt Windows XP, you will have to face the FAT32 versus NTFS decision. Clean and upgrade installs both require you to address the situation early on in the process. Later on, if you add a drive or repartition an existing drive the decision process faces you yet again. Circumstances may dictate the choice for you, but in most cases the options have to be Weighed and the tradeoffs of using each method analyzed. Let's look at the available choices.
File System Choices Most articles discussing file system choices look at FAT32 and NTFS as the two available choices. In Reality, there are three systems which could be selected. FAT, FAT32, and NTFS. Granted, FAT32 and NTFS are the primary choices, but on occasion you'll still find the need for a FAT volume. A FAT Volume has a maximum size of 2GB and supports MS-DOS as well as being used for some dual boot Configurations, but backward compatibility is about the only reason I can think of that FAT should ever be used, other than for the occasional floppy diskette. That said; let's move on to FAT32 and NTFS.
Which File System to Choose? As much as everyone would like for there to be a stock answer to the selection question, there isn’t. Different situations and needs will play a large role in the decision of which file system to adopt. There isn’t any argument that NTFS offers better security and reliability. Some also say that NTFS is more flexible, but that can get rather subjective depending on the situation and work habits, whereas NTFS superiority in security and reliability is seldom challenged. Listed below are some of the most common factors to consider when deciding between FAT32 and NTFS.
Security FAT32 provides very little security. A user with access to a drive using FAT32 has access to the files on that drive. NTFS allows the use of NTFS Permissions. It's much more difficult to implement, but folder and file access can be controlled individually, down to an extreme degree if necessary. The down side of using NTFS Permissions is the chance for error and screwing up the system is greatly magnified. Windows XP Professional supports file encryption.
Compatibility NTFS volumes are not recognized by Windows 95/98/Me. This is only a concern when the system is set up for dual or multi-booting. FAT32 must be used for any drives that must be accessed when the computer is booted from Windows 95/98 or Windows Me. An additional note to the previous statement. Users on the network have access to shared folders no Matter what disk format is being used or what version of Windows is installed. FAT and FAT32 volumes can be converted to NTFS volumes. NTFS cannot be converted to FAT32 without reformatting.
Space Efficiency NTFS supports disk quotas, allowing you to control the amount of disk usage on a per user basis. NTFS supports file compression. FAT32 does not How a volume manages data is outside the scope of this article, but once you pass the 8GB partition size, NTFS handles space management much more efficiently than FAT32. Cluster sizes play an important part in how much disk space is a wasted storing file. NTFS provides smaller cluster sizes and less disk space waste than FAT32.In Windows XP, the maximum partition size that can be created using FAT32 is 32GB. This increases to 16TB (terabytes) using NTFS. There is a workaround for the 32GB limitation under FAT32, but it is a nuisance especially considering the size of drives currently being manufactured.
Reliability FAT32 drives are much more susceptible to disk errors.NTFS volumes have the ability to recover from errors more readily than similar FAT32 volumes. Log files are created under NTFS which can be used for automatic file system repairs. NTFS supports dynamic cluster remapping for bad sectors and prevent them from being used in the future.
The final choice
As the prior versions of Windows continue to age and are replaced in the home and workplace there will be no need for the older file systems. Hard drives aren't going to get smaller, networks are likely to get larger and more complex, and security is evolving almost daily as more and more users become connected. For all the innovations that Windows 95 brought to the desktop, it's now a virtual dinosaur. Windows 98 is fast on the way out and that leaves NT and Windows 2000, both well suited to NTFS. To wrap up, there may be compelling reasons why your current situation requires a file system other than NTFS or a combination of different systems for compatibility, but if at all possible go With NTFS. Even if you don't utilize its full scope of features, the stability and reliability it offers make it the hands down choice.
Change Text on XP Start Button Step 1 – Modify Explorer.exe File In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For this purpose in this article I have used Resource Hacker. Resource Hacker TM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98, Win ME, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems. http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe as shown in Fig. 1. The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe as shown in Fig. 1. FIG 1
The category we are going to be using is String Table. Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navigate down to and expand string 37 followed by highlighting 1033. If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38. The right hand pane will display the string table as shown in Fig. 2. We’re going to modify item 578, currently showing the word “start” just as it displays on the current Start button.
FIG 2
There is no magic here. Just double click on the word “start” so that it’s highlighted, making sure the quotation marks are not part of the highlight. They need to remain in place, surrounding the new text that you’ll type. Go ahead and type your new entry. In my case I used ATUL. Fig 3
Compare the screen captures in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 and you’ll notice that after the new text string has been entered the Compile Script button that was grayed out in Fig. 2 is now active in Fig. 3. I won’t get into what’s involved in compiling a script, but suffice it to say it’s going to make this exercise worthwhile. Click Compile Script and then save the altered file using the Save As command on the File Menu. Do not use the Save command – Make sure to use the Save As command and choose a name for the file. See Fig. 04. Save the newly named file to C:\Windows.
Fig 4
Step 2 – Modify the Registry Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it’s necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. If you don’t know how to access the registry I’m not sure this article is for you, but just in case it’s a temporary memory lapse, go to Start (soon to be something else) Run and type regedit in the Open: field. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft \ Windows NT\ Current Version\ Win logon Fig 5
In the right pane (Fig. 5), double click the Shell entry to open the Edit String dialog box as shown in Fig. 6. In Value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK
Fig 6
Close Registry Editor and either log off the system and log back in, or reboot the entire system if that’s your preference. If all went as planned you should see your new Start button with the revised text. Fig 7

Use NETSH Command to Change from Static IP Address to DHCP 2K You can use the netsh command in Windows 2000 to script the process of changing a computer from static Internet Protocol (IP) address to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or vice versa. The netsh command accomplishes this task without the need to restart the computer. This feature is particularly useful for laptops that move from one environment to another, when it is necessary to use statically assigned IP addresses at one location and DHCP assigned IP addresses at another. To switch the specified adapter from a static address to DHCP, type the following command: netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp NOTE: Typing this command changes the interface named "Local Area Connection" to DHCP. To display all of the adapters in the computer with their current IP addresses to determine the correct adapter name, type the following command: Netsh interface ip show config To change to a static address, type the following command: netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static ip address subnet mask gateway metric NOTE: Replace ipaddress with the static IP address, subnetmask with the subnet mask, Gateway with the default gateway and, if necessary, metric with the appropriate metric. The following example changes the interface "Local Area Connection" to a static address of 192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 with a metric of 1:
