Wekiva Whispers Wekiva Elementary School 1450 East Wekiva Trail Longwood, Florida 32779 Phone: 746-3150 Fax: 746-3163 November 2009 Principal: Michael Pfeiffer Assistant Principal: Michelle Robinson 3rd Grade Honors Veterans Day On Veterans Day, November 11th, the 3rd grade children will be a victory garden of red, white, and blue as they participate in our annual Veterans Day musical salute to our heroes. Students will honor their invited veteran guests and veteran guests from our community who served in all branches of the armed services. This is a program you do not want to miss! Support Wekiva You can help Wekiva and its students by collecting and turning in the following product items: Tyson Chicken labels, Campbell Soup labels, and Box tops for Education. Wekiva redeems these labels and box tops for money, which is used to support students directly. Be sure to designate Wekiva Elementary as your school to support when you shop at Target. Wekiva just received a check from Target for over $600 that will be used to support student programs. To sign up or designate Wekiva as your Target school, visit Target.com/tcoe. Wekiva Clips Box Tops for Education Once again, Wekiva Elementary is collecting Box Tops for Education, a program sponsored by General Mills. Each Box Top coupon you send to the school earns our school ten cents. Imagine if we collect 1,000 box tops a month!!! The school would receive $100! The process is fast and simple, and an excellent way to support our school during these hard financial times. Please consider supporting this project. It is easy and helps our school do some of the “extras”. Fall Festival Wrap-Up Our Fall Festival and Book Fair was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who

We believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for both our students and their parents, and a great way to support our Dividend program as well! We do remind parents to Seminole County Public Schools www.scps.k12.fl.us or www.wekivaelementary.com
follow a few important rules when visiting: 1. Make sure to always sign in as a visitor in the front office, get a visitor sticker, and make sure the sticker is easy to see. 2. You can only eat lunch with your child, unless of course another parent is joining you. 3. Please monitor your children. Running on the patio and on the mulch and grassy area by the oak tree, as well as climbing on the brick wall, is dangerous and not allowed. Boosterthon Fundraiser Wekiva asks all families to support PTA’s Boosterthon fundraiser, Wekiva Elementary, and your children! Boosterthon, an educationally based fundraiser, was chosen by the Wekiva PTA. It is designed to actively engage our students in character education, as well as traditional academics. It is all about learning, feeling good about oneself, and making a difference in our school and community. Throughout the week of November 9th, Boosterthon coaches will be at Wekiva for rallies and lessons. On November 18th, Wekiva will take part in our Boosterthon “fun run”! New AR Search Tool Do you want a quick and easy way to find which books have AR tests in our media center? QuizList Interactive will put your list into a searchable database online so you can search your list from home or the public library. Parents can help choose a book by entering their child's reading level range and a topic that interests them, and get a list of all the quizzes that meet their needs. Then they can click on each title and read summaries. This is a fantastic way for you to browse our AR list. You can find the link to QuizList Interactive right on our school website by clicking on the same "AR List" links you've used before. Wekiva Saddened by Loss Wekiva regrets to inform our Wekiva community that Mrs. Miriam Moons, a former Wekiva teacher, has passed after a long battle with illness. Mrs. Moons served as a teacher at Wekiva for many years and touched hundreds of students’ lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
