Fall Fun Night Needs You! Our annual Fall Fun Night is just days away. The church halls and rooms will be bustling with hundreds of children and their families, many of whom will be new to Federated. While October 23 will be a ton of fun, it will also be a ton of work! Want to share the fun and lighten the work? Here are some of the ways you can be involved:

• Pray for this to be a safe, enjoyable evening for everyone and for visitors to feel welcome and eager to return to learn more about the God we love and serve. Contact the Children’s Ministries office at 255.2122 to volunteer or for more information.

Can’t have a Cake Walk without lots of CAKES!

• Donate individually wrapped candy or snack items--Goldfish, animal crackers, fruit snacks, raisins, etc. (You’ll find containers throughout the building each week for your donations.) • Volunteer to help with decorating, set up and/or clean up. • Volunteer to supervise a game, serve as a host/greeter, help in the refreshment area. • Invite your friends and neighbors to attend. Flyers are available at the Welcome Center or in the Franklin Hall foyer.

MISSION ONE

Reaching others for Jesus Christ

IRAN 30, Discover, Pray, Transform

Tony & Tsering Malik

“News from Iran dominates our headlines, but behind the scenes God is building His church. Thirty years of Islamic revolution have made Iranians the most open to Christ of all the Muslim people in the world. And it is only the Gospel that can bring peace to Iranians and the whole Middle East. But for the Gospel to be preached with power there must be prayer. “These are crucial days in the long history of the church in Iran. There is solid evidence both of unprecedented openness to the Gospel and also of church growth; but the church continues to face severe opposition. At least eight Christians have been murdered for their faith, and hundreds imprisoned. Their martyrdoms underline the need to pray against the Islamic law of apostasy that demands the death sentence for any male apostate from Islam, and life imprisonment for women. Most members of the growing house churches are threatened by this law.

Mission Board: Global Outreach Missions Location: Mussoorie, UK, India What do they do? Maliks’ goal is evangelism and church planting focused among the Tibetan Buddhist peoples in India, Nepal and the Central Asian region. They manage a guesthouse facility in their home, sponsor Tibetan refugee children, serve with an international networking organization, send and support church-planting missionaries to Nepal. Tsering serves at Woodstock (Christian missionary) School.

Praises: • Tony is on the mend from a road accident six months ago. God has allowed him to remain occupied and busy. • For the salvation of 3 Tibetans and 2 Nepali.

Prayer Requests: • For hosting a “feast” of visitors this month. • For their plans to travel to Delhi in December to spend time with Tony’s father. • For approval of their application for a US visa while in Delhi. • For support needs—they are 20% short of their budget.

Pray for Iran: • For churches to be planted in thousands of towns and villages. • For brave servants to be raised up to lead the church. • For the enemies of the church to be restrained. • For the presence of the Holy Spirit to be with all who are arrested for their faith. • For the families of the prisoners. • For intimidation of the church to stop. By Elam Ministries www.iran30.org

Don & Paula Cabeen Mission Board: TEAM Location: Seville, Spain What do they do? Previously serving for eleven years as Field Leader in Spain, the Cabeens now serve with a church planting team targeting the establishment of a church in the town of Osuna (population 18,000 with no evangelical church.) This church will eventually serve as a center for reaching 15 other towns in the area. They also air a TV program, “Ecuentros de Esperanza” on the local station in Puebla.

Katie Location: Closed Country What does she do? Katie spent 22 years in fellowship here at FFC, participating in five mission trips during her teen years. She now works with an unreached people group living in a country where Christianity is illegal. She teaches English in an adult community program, facilitating short-term English-teaching trips and promoting education among minority people groups. She is also studying the national language.

Praises: • For three new church members from Romania.

Prayer Requests: • For an increase in Romanian visitors to their church as the immigrant population increases due to the olive harvest season. • For families related to the church who are facing spiritual battles with family members who have had contact with the occult; for protection for those involved and for victory to be gained. • For 6 people beginning the “Prepared to Serve” course designed to equip believers for effective service. • For God’s provision of jobs for Josh (daughter Janna’s husband in the US) who was laid off. They are both now without employment.

Prayer Requests: • For organizational leadership team meetings this month. • For wisdom in all aspects for the team. • For a planned sabbatical beginning in February after she steps down as team leader; that she will finish well. • For prayer against all distraction, lies, excuses, problems, temptations, etc., that the Enemy may throw her way in preparation for and during this get-away. SERVE PEOPLE

Who’s Packing Shoe Boxes? A Very Special Need

Some of our church staff got a head start on Operation Christmas Child this week by packing shoe box gifts together. Remember to pick up your shoe box and instructions next Sunday, October 25, when Operation Christmas Child 2009 kicks off here at FFC.

By Sherri Stufflebeem Director of Children’s Ministries

As I sit here at my desk and look at a picture of my good friend, Jordy, I’m inspired by his smile, proud of him for the Special Olympics ribbons he’s wearing around his neck, and praying a special blessing on him today. Jordy is one of a handful of children and young people that we are blessed to have here in our church body. It’s amazing to watch God work through them and to see the impact they have on the lives around them. These special individuals also come with some special needs that we work to meet each week. We are always looking for volunteers to come alongside these friends, love them, and help to draw them a little closer to Jesus. I would love to chat with YOU about that! It simply requires some extra patience and a heart that has love to give away. We will train and equip you with the skills needed. Want more info? Contact Sherri Stufflebeem in the Children’s Department (255.2122) or mark the Care and Communication card today and we’ll give you a call! First Federated Church

Where Are You on Wednesday Evenings? By Tracy Griess

Baseball and football and Scouts…oh, my! Music lessons, dance class, and soccer…oh, my! Our children’s live are filled with a lot of activities. Sometimes we have our weeks so packed with programs and activities we can’t even imagine adding one more thing. I understand, that first sentence describes life at my house. We often wish for a night of calm family time at home. We just want One of our main to relax and re-charge to make it focuses at AWANA is through to the end of the week. All of these are great activities, to reach children and but where does church fit in? families for Christ. Sunday is easy for most of us. This can only be done We come to church because that when we, as believers, is what we do. We want to teach our children that worship and seek out those service to God is important. But children and their what about mid-week worship and parents who have not service? I would challenge each of us who do not regularly attend had the opportunity Wednesday night activities to ask to know and love why? What is keeping our kids away from a night full of fun and Jesus Christ. God’s Word? Are all of those other activities worth missing out on one more awesome opportunity for our children to grow closer to God? First Federated has activities for kids from 0 to 18 and something for parents as well. Nursery is provided for our littlest ones. AWANA offers clubs for kids ages 2 years through 4th grade. Our 5th and 6th graders have a great time in their own Xtreme room and right now they are “daring to be Daniels.” Our junior and senior high youth group meets on Wednesday evening in the BackDoor. We have something for you too, Mom and Dad. What could be more re-charging than a night of prayer with fellow believers? Prayer Community is a great way to spend some time with God, and have the privilege to pray for each other. One of our main focuses at AWANA is to reach children and families for Christ. This can only be done when we, as believers, seek out those children and their parents who have not had the opportunity to know and love Jesus Christ. We talk a lot about numbers and how many were here on any given Sunday or Wednesday. The number we really want to increase is the number of children who know Christ as their personal Savior. That is truly the only number that matters! Now, who will you commit to pray for and then bring? First Federated Church

October is the month we celebrate Columbus Day and that’s enough reason to show off our patriotism. So, break out your red, white and/or blue outfits as we observe the discovery of this great country of ours.

The program… Federated’s own Margaret Welder (Sonny, too!) will be sharing Memories from My Mother and My Childhood” complete with three delicious recipes that bring the stories to life. Five people will take home the results of this demonstration.

The meal… We will be serving meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, green beans, salad and chocolate cake. To make your reservation, call Colleen at the church office, 255.2122, no later than noon on Monday.

And a Challenge… Now you can be part of making a special childhood memory for a needy child. Soon First Federated will be collecting shoe box gifts for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Franklin Graham’s ministry, Samaritan’s Purse. In addition to the hundreds of filled boxes brought in by families and individuals, some boxes will be packed by our Kindergarten – 4th graders during KZ Church. The children are bringing offerings for the project, but they’ll need many items to fill their boxes. You can help by bringing one of the following items to 60+ in October. (Remember, all items must be new.) • A hygiene item such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, wash cloth, comb, or brush • A small toy—Hot Wheels car, small doll, kazoo, harmonica, yo-yo, jump rope, etc. • Child’s clothing item or accessory—T-shirt, socks, sunglasses, hair clips, flashlight with batteries.
