Climate Fengyuan city belongs to the semitropical climate. The summers are hot and have plentiful rainfall while the winters are dry. The average annual precipitation is around 1900 mm, and temperature averaged 22°C. Rain concertrates is the period from April through June. Typhoons occer in August and September, fortunately, seldom hit the town directly. The climate is temperate and comfortable.

Population Fengyuan City is currently divided into 36 districts and 799 neighbourhoods. As of June 2001, the household registry's statistics shsow 42,706 households with a total population of 161,581. The population distribution is dense at a rate of 3,923.41 per square kilometer.

Culture 　 With a considerable history of development, Fengyuan city is rich in historical and cultural assets, and continue to explore her indigenous colors. The primary cultural institutions of the city are the municipal library and Taichung County Cultural Centre. shouldering the responsibilities of exploring the artistic heritage and carrying on the cultural legacy.

Municipal Library Completed at the same time as the municipal hall building, the municipal library first opened to the public in May 1991. The library has a floor space of 448 pings, housing a collection of more than 45,000 volumes. The establishment offers book loans, reference consultation,

audio & video facility, reading and cultural exchanges. Exhibitions and community events are held on regular basis. Coupled with significant artistic performances and events, the library serves to enrich the residents' spiritual life and the city's cultural flare.

Taichung County Cultural Centre The centre belongs to Taichung County Government. Besides housing regular exhibitions and cultural exchanges, international cultural actives are often held here to the pleasure of the public.

Economy During the Japanese occupation period, the city is one of the island's three major timber distribution centers. On account of which, related industries have also fostered, paving a sound foundation for the region's economic development both industrially and commercially. The economy had transformed from agriculture in the early days to today's industrialization. With efficient distribution channeling, Fengyuan is a distribution centre for products of neighboring towns, which much added to the booming economic development. The city is equipped with sound infrastructure in transportation and utilities which has generated active manufacturing in diverse scales, particularly in the sectors of machinery making, shoe production,

timber processing and motors. Today Fengyuan houses many factory facilities, and is developing in the direction of small and medium light industry as well as precision technology. In addition to which, there are more than ten thousand stores of wide varieties and some fifty plus financial institutions. In recent years, department stores, hypermarkets and high-tech industry having been taking roots locally, turning the city into a metropolis. Besides industrial activities, agriculture remains an important asset to the city. Calabash Rice is renowned nationwide, and is critical economic yield. Other agricultural products include potato, tangerine, grape and garlic.

Geographic Location On the North hemisphere (East Longitude120, North Latitude24), Fengyuan is located to the mid-west of Taiwan. To the east, it boarders with the Central Mountains, Tungshih Town, Shihkang Village and Hsinshe Village. To the west, it leads to Shengkung Village, and joins Tantzu in the south.On the north, it looks across Tachia River to Holi Village. The administrative region covers some 41.1838 square kilometers.

Fengyuan City tilts gradually from northeastern to southwest. The shape is wider on the north and narrows down on the south. The east, west width is 8.25 kilometers and 6.22 kilometers long. The west plain boarders on Tachia River and enjoys rich water resources while Kuanying Mountain and Pitao Mountain form a natural shield on the east.
