NURSING HOME VISITS

FOOD CONCESSIONS We are going to give the food concession stand at the winter show in January another shot this year. I need assistance with Setup on Friday Jan. 9th late afternoon, early evening. Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th we need to man it from about 6am to about 5pm so the more help the better to make this a success. I will also need some people willing to help with clean-up and hauling stuff back to the club on Sunday afternoon, early evening. This is a great opportunity to get your hours in early in the year so you don't have to scramble in December. Thanks to last years courageous guinea pigs that got all the bugs out, things should run more smoothly this year. Adam Zschaechner [email protected] 920-277-1110

WDC AWARDS It's that time of year again... time to recognize you and your dogs for all of the hard work you put in over the past year!!!! Annually WDC as a club recognizes AKC titles earned during the year and submitted by club members in good standing at its Annual Awards and Appreciation Dinner. So dig out the information requested and submit it as instructed -- you both deserve it!!! For those of you who received award plaques last year you will remember that the club initiated the "perpetual award plaque" concept. This means that dogs will receive one (1) award plaque, however, titles earned will be added to this plaque making it a "perpetual award plaque" for you and your dog. This means that dogs that received WDC award plaques last year and have earned new titles this year will need to submit the plaque so that the additional titles can be added accordingly. The WDC Award Box is where all plaques should be submitted and it will be located in the club office from Saturday, November 1, 2008 through Thursday, January 8, 2009. Please note that this is a change in how the awards have been done in the past and the above information is included within the awards instructions as well. Please if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me by email at [email protected] or phone 920 720 0701 ... sooner rather than later..... Thank you…

Julie Siefert, Awards Chairperson

FROM THE PRESIDENT It is that time of the year to count your blessings and to give thanks. This past year I have been blessed by being surrounded by many hard working people and to thank them. I would like to thank Jamie Gloede and Angela Schmidt for page 4

all the work that they have done on advertising for the past few years. It was much appreciated and you both will be missed. I would like to give a big thanks to Renee Hoelzel who has helped me so much for doing anything that I needed to have done on the computer. I also would like to thank Eric Hoelzel for donating a small snow blower to the dog club. It works great around the doors to get into the building. I’ll give a big thank you to Laurel Stone for setting up and our new website. It is really great!!! If you haven’t taken a look at it-please do!!!! We have Adam Zschaechner who has stepped up and has done a fantastic job on organizing our cages so we can find what we need when we need it. It looks great!!! Thank you to all of our committee chairpersons and our training staff who are instrumental in keeping the club running smoothly. I know there are other unsung heroes that need to be thanked and this is for them. They aren’t in charge of anything, but they lend a hand at those critical moments when things need to get done. The club could not function without them. Hope everyone has a great Christmas and an even better New Year!!!!! Thanks Again,

Don “Stan” Stanislawski

FROM DEB ZIERLER As new director of the obedience program, I will be using a core group of instructors to design a program using lots of "old stuff" that worked well in the past and some new stuff as well. The program will be separated into a Practical Pet and a Performance Pet program, with Judy Rathbun designing the Performance Pet. We need YOUR input to make our classes successful! There is a huge need for Puppy K instructors and helpers! A meeting for all interested trainers and helpers will be held on Thursday, January 8 at 5:30.

Please come out and give us your ideas!

WE NEED MEMBERS TO VOLUNTEER TO TRAIN OUR CLASSES!!! For years our classes has kept our club solvent. With out them we wouldn’t have the training center and the yards for the dogs to play in. It is imperative that we keep our classes going to support our club and for this we need trainers. We need back trainers who have trained in the past and people who are interested in training in the future. What does it take to be a trainer? First we state the obvious. Our love of dogs. Some knowledge of how to train a dog (been through classes already-either at WDC or else where) and a willingness to share that with total strangers who know nothing but want to learn. You will spend hours away from your family with friends who have the same dedication. The fact remains that without our class revenue we as a club stand to loose everything that you see on Manitowoc Road. You really do get satisfaction from helping people train and understand their dogs and leaving your class with a pet and companion. Right now we could use more volunteers for our puppy classes. If you are unsure, observe a class from the point of view of a trainer and then decide. If you have been a trainer and aren’t satisfied with the classes, work to change them, don’t just abandon them. Thank you all for your help. The WDC is counting on YOU.

Champion Chazlyn's Lapis Lazuli SL "Lazer", shown only 7

Loving known at "Zeena" earned her Utility Title on Nov 23rd,2008 at the Western Waukesha Show.Zeena and I started our journey for the utility title at the Badger Golden Show in March.. It certainly wasn't a smooth road, many potholes in our path... But we didn't quit, we would refix what was broke and move on.. And at last all 4 wheels were working at the same time... We still have work to do because now we are entering the world of UDX. I wouldn't be able to accomplish any of this if it wasn't for my Coach on the sidelines, Instructor of my lessons, Mentor when I'm frustrated, and Friend with a shoulder to lean on.. "Anna Lorenz". Zeena is the best team-partner, and I love her dearly... Judy Rathbun
