Motionless Floating. This useful feature of swimming is so seldom accomplished, or even practiced by the majority of swimmers, thatl dqubt whether they realize its usefulness; they coincide with that misleading
theory, "That
or, perhaps,
only certain persons can float."
venture to say that not above five per wit. of swim~ers

ever learn it properly, and that
ninety per cent. could do so if they carried out the proper method and gave it some little attention.
My experience is tha't in no case is it an impossibility to learn.

What a nice feature it would add
if some of our senior members
fancy swimming and floating!
The advantages
could give a good exhibition of
of floating, to the swimmer, are too
numerous for me to dwell upon at length here, but a word to tho~e swimmers who have neglected to learn this useful feature and whose whole thought is prize winning. your ambition is exhausted,
When
your power of endurance and speed are waning, and you are
no longer in the first rank 'of racing competition, you will gradually forsake not being able to show to advantage,

as in the past, whereas, if you learn to be a thorough
master of the water you can enjoy yourself in our pool or at the seashore.
When
bathing in the sea I know of no pleasanter sensation than to go out beyond the breakers and stretch out upon the waves, and be buoyed up and down by nature's hidden power. To float on the water. so buoyant. so free. The acme of ecstacy. that Is .to me, Now In the trough, now on the crest, in nature's own cradle. rock me to re~t.
