Objective To facilitate the students to develop statistical skills for managerial decision making

COURSE CONTENTS Unit 1 Introduction to Statistics 10 Hours Business statistics- scope and applications; grouping and displaying data to convey meaning by tables, graphs and frequency distribution ; summary statistics- measures of central tendency; dispersion; skewness and kurtosis.

Unit 2 Probability Distributions 17 Hours Introduction to probability- Concept of probability; probability rules and its uses in business decision-making; Addition and Multiplication Theorems and; Baye’s Theorem and its applications; Expectation; Probability distributions – Binomial, Poisson and Normal distributions; Hypothesis testing - basic concepts; tests – z, t, ANOVA and chi- square; Estimation: Point and Interval estimates for population parameters of large sample and small samples, Determining the sample size

Unit 3 Correlation, Regression and Time Series Analysis 10 Hours Correlation analysis- estimation using regression lines; forecasting; Time series and components-trend analysis -Straight line fitting by method of least squares and moving averages.

Unit 4 Decision Theory 08 Hours Decision theory- Decision making under uncertainty, Decision making under risk (EMV criteria) and Decision making under certainty.
