March 2009 MONTHLY PUBLICATION
From Cheryl’s Desk Once again this year, our assisted living facilities', has received a monetary gift from the Winona Health Auxiliary to make a purchase that is outside of our typical day to day purchases. At Watkins Manor, we recently added a fireplace to the main entrance area and we will be purchasing a large screen television to help us develop our movie theatre room. At AMM/RMM, we will be purchasing some new seating arrangements.

We are thankful to our friends and neighbors who think of Winona Health, and more specifically, our assisted living facilities. Often times these gifts come with a vision and wish from the donor. This spring at Watkins Manor, we will be enhancing our courtyard area, upgrading the resident’s computer, and looking at our resident common areas to make improvements with donations left to us through the WH Foundation. At AMM/RMM we will purchase a few new benches for our garden area and take opportunities to re-do our interior living areas to enhance our resident living space. We hope you will enjoy these gifts that are intended to enhance our care and service to our residents.

Feature Resident continued from page 1 Upon his return they moved to Winona and started a family. They had four boys: Donald, Doug, Dick, and Dean. The family loved to travel and vacationed in Washington D.C., Chicago, and other places throughout the Unites States. Gladys was active in the PTA, PEO, and church groups at Central Methodist. She was an excellent pastry chef and enjoyed reading about geography. Joe passed away in March of 2008, and shortly after Gladys came to live at AMM. Gladys enjoys music and loves listening to the harp played by music therapist, Mary Jo Baldus. She looks forward to visits from her beloved family, riding in the car, and reading the newspaper. One of her favorite outings is to Starbucks at the local Target - she loves their coffee! March is National Nutrition Month. I will be having a display with handouts on special diets either in the lobby or the gift shop. I will also incorporate healthy food options throughout the month. For example, we will try whole wheat pasta for spaghetti. I will bring in some brown rice to have instead of white rice, and we plan to make some desserts with Splenda. I also saw a sugar free apple pie in one of our vendor catalogs I might bring in and try.
