In June, Bibles for America (BfA) concluded its Word of Life Tour, an unprecedented six-week motor home tour to visit local volunteers and Bible recipients throughout the midwestern United States. Two of BfA’s motor homes traveled in different areas, making stops throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and the Canadian province of Ontario. While previous BfA motor home tours emphasized distributing copies of the New Testament Recovery Version, the Word of Life Tour was focused on assisting volunteers in their contacting of Bible recipients who have requested fellowship. The motor home crew members also visited volunteers in outlying small towns. In Wheeling, Illinois, a woman approached the BfA distribution table because she recognized the phrase “Recovery Version” printed on the side of the motor home. While living in Thessaloniki, Greece, she had met with Christians who studied from the Recovery Version but lost contact with them when she moved back to the U.S. She was eager to get together with the volunteers she met at the distribution table. Though classes were not in session at Michigan State University in East Lansing and few students were on campus, volunteers distributed brochures and Recovery Versions and invited new Bible recipients to a seminar that night at a community center. At the seminar, motor

home crew members spoke about BfA and about how to use the unique study aids of the Recovery Version. During a two-day trip to western Kansas, over 150 Recovery Versions and about 700 gift-offer brochures were distributed. In Garden City, Kansas, Christians continued to visit with volunteers inside the motor home even after the distribution event had concluded. Because of the positive response among Bible recipients during the Word of Life Tour, volunteers in western Kansas hosted two Recovery Version seminars in August—one in Garden City and one in Dodge City. Volunteers traveled from Wichita, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri; Jackson, Mississippi; and southern California to support and attend the seminars.

Gulf States Motor Home Tour From March through May, one of BfA’s motor homes traveled through the states of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi to distribute free Recovery Versions and gift-offer brochures. Motor home crew members and volunteers offered free Bibles in many cities, including locations affected by last year’s hurricanes. At the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, volunteers distributed Bibles for six hours. They met one young man who was preparing to give a message on Romans 12:1-2 the following Launching Bibles for Canada

weekend. After reading the verses and footnotes in the Recovery Version on the renewing of the mind, he said, “This is going to help me a lot. These notes are amazing!” Another young man approached the volunteers and pleaded for a Bible after the distribution table and materials had already been packed up at the end of the day. He had lost his home and possessions in Hurricane Katrina. He had been saved for two months but could not afford to buy a Bible. Volunteers gladly gave him a free New Testament Recovery Version.

After months of planning and prayer, Bibles for Canada (BfC) was officially inaugurated this year. BfC launched operations on June 1 when local volunteers, together with motor home crew members from the Word of Life Tour, set up booths at farmers’ markets in the towns of Kitchener and Guelph in southwestern Ontario, Canada. A total of 476 copies of the New Testament Recovery Version were given out.

Volunteer Giving Away Bibles

One Canadian volunteer testified that Canadians are very open and hungry for the truth. At a Bible distribution event in Brampton, Ontario, volunteers heard comments such as, “Oh, good. My husband and I will use this Bible when we have our morning devotions,” and, “This is wonderful! I finally have a Bible I can use to answer my friend’s questions.” BfC will be based in Vancouver, and its distribution center will be in Calgary. Canadians may order free Bibles at BfC’s Web site: www.biblesforcanada.org.
