Calculate the work done when a gas is expanded from 250 dm3 to 645 dm3 by an external pressure of 11.5 kPa.

A gas is compressed into 3.5 L container against a constant pressure of 1 atm at 25°C. How much work is done on the gas by the surroundings (in joules)?

Describe the different types of energy.

Discuss in details about these terms; isochoric process, isobaric process, adiabatic process and isothermal process.

12. A balloon is heated by adding 1135 J of heat. It expands, doing 538 J of work on the atmosphere. Calculate the change in internal energy of the system.

13. A sample of liquid propane weighing 7.15 g was burned in a bomb calorimeter. The observed temperature rise was from 23°C to 29.4°C. Calculate the ΔU for the combustion of 1 mole of liquid propane. (Mr propane = 44.1 g/mol; heat capacity of propane = 16.72 J/K)

14. A vessel containing 2.5 kg of water at 25°C is heated until it boils. Calculate how much heat is supplied to boil the water. (Assume : molar heat capacity of water; Cm = 75.4 J K-1 mol-1)
