Penguins Re-Sign Tristan Jarry to a One-Year Contract
The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed goaltender Tristan Jarry to a one-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford. Jarry’s deal carries an average value of XX million. The 23-year-old split time between the Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the 2017-18 regular season, playing in 26 games with the Penguins and 16 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound Jarry started in 23 of his 26 regular-season games and went 14-6-0 with the Penguins in the 2017-18 season. With a 2.77 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage, Jarry led the NHL rookies with 14 wins. He had tallied his first career shutout as well as one more. This was the most shutouts by a Penguins goalie that season. The Surrey, British Columbia native went 9-5-2 with a 3.05 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in his 16 regular season games with WBS in the 2017-18 season. In his 2016-17 season Jarry was awarded the Harry Holmes Award with his teammate Casey DeSmith. They were awarded the AHL Best Goaltending Duo. This award is given to goaltenders in the AHL with the lowest goals against average and who have appeared in at least 25 regular season games. Jarry played 45 games that season and went 28-15-2 with a career high 2.15 goals- against average and a career high .925 save percentage. He ranked third in the AHL with his 28 wins. He had three shutouts. Jarry was selected by the Penguins in the NHL 2013 draft as a second round (44th overall) pick after he went 18-7-0 with a 1.61 goals-against average and .936 save percentage with Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League. He led the WHL with a 1.61 goals-against average and .936 save percent
average in 2012-13 season. His following 2013-14 season he had 44 wins with Edmonton to lead the entire WHL. This ranked 5 more than the next closest goalie. In 2014 Jarry led his team to the WHL championship and Memorial Cup title against the Portland Winterhawks.
