To Serve for Vocation “There is nothing stronger in the world that the heart of a real volunteer”, Said James H. Doolittle. Two years ago, I was a member of a parochial organization where there are different programs in which you can enroll freely. Among them was the program of volunteering, Although at the first time I was be sure of tried it, I signed up and I could talk with other volunteers as me, and despite that fact that inside of my mind I had a lot doubts of continue there, there was a member of a group that called my attention. He said, “to serve should be born of your heart because when serving also we are helping us”. Definitely, I believe that donating your time to help others have to be for vocation. However the same word says it, voluntarily it means that it is born of your will and shouldn’t be something that you have to do. There are many reasons to consider the volunteer work as personal option and not only to get something about it. First, there are people that believe that the volunteering can help to fight the vandalism in the teenagers, but let’s be realistic, probabilities that can happen are minimal if instead of help those with other methods, we only obligate them to help others without really wanting it, instead to be a rewarding experience it will be another obligation to fulfil. Second, it is believed that volunteering exposes the reality of other and that’s right. But when they force you to do something that you don't want, even though that you see the most difficult situations of other people, you won´t have the same empathy and conscience to do that. Moreover, those people that will be helped deserve that you have truly will, and above all without interest.

Third, Although it is said that mandatory volunteering teaches you to value that you have, how can you teach somebody to value what he does not have in a forced way and for his or her help reward it with credits, extra points or the pass to graduate?, the will of

help up to others to be born in your soul but especially with full conscience, because it is not easy serve others, but with truly vocation, decision and empathy, this could be one of the most experiences happiness. As you can see, nothing in the life has to be forced and less serving to other. The experience of helping other people has to be for themselves. Because if it’s for obligation, it isn’t the same feeling and experience, perhaps you only obtained the emotion of the moment and when you finish helping you will not develop the real human conscience and moral that is required for to server with vocation and not for obligation.
