“Tip Sheet” to Help Improve Your Legend Add the following techniques, using this color code in your draft:
Figures of Speech: ➢ Descriptive Simile (a comparison using ‘like’ or ‘as’) ➢ Descriptive Metaphor (compare two unlike things, without ‘like’ or ‘as’) ➢ Personification (a nonhuman thing is given human characteristics) ➢ Imagery (smells, tastes, noises, sights, touch… underlined twice)
➢ Elaboration (expanded description) ➢ Exaggeration ➢ Suspense ➢ Humor ➢ Dialogue (use the style sheet in your writing folder) ➢ Motif… a perilous journey, a dangerous decision, a clever trickster
