Domino’s Pizza treat for underprivileged children HOT, fresh and delicious pizzas from Domino’s Pizza completed a fun-filled morning for 32 under-privileged children of Agathians Shelter here in Kuala Lumpur recently. The half-day affair was made all the merrier with the participation of Domino’s employees and their families in the revelry. Besides the pizza fest, the other highlight of the half-day affair was a special appearance by Stanley the clown, who became the centre of attention for the children, care-givers as well as guests with his hilarious antics as he entertained the children with various games and contests. The children at Agathians Shelter were among 3,000 underprivileged children who received a Domino’s Pizza treat in conjunction with the Chinese New Year. “It was indeed heart-warming to see children of different races and age groups having a great time in the company

of our colleagues and their respective families,” said Dommal Food Services Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Ba U Shan-Ting. He said Domino’s has been delivering pizzas to underprivileged children during the festive season since 2002. “Each Domino’s outlet serves the communities around it, so the communities we operate in are important to us. This gesture is our way of enabling underprivileged children in our communities to partake in the merriment during our national festive celebrations,” he said. “With the positive response we have received from all quarters, we are indeed encouraged to make such pizza treats a long-lasting tradition at Domino’s,” Shan-Ting added. Domino’s visit to Agathians Shelter was the final stop in a

Go-kart boost for Penang

THE Penang state government is mulling a plan to have go-kart races to promote tourism in the state. State Tourism Development committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang believes the open-wheel motor sport could help attract both local and foreign tourists to the state, just like how it is one of the main attractions in Macau. “In the 1970s, the state was well-known for the Penang Grand Prix races. We can try to bring that glory back by having go-kart races,” he said. He hoped that the state would also be able to host Formula Three races as well. Law said there are several locations, like Esplanade and Bayan Baru, which are suitable to be made into racing tracks. “I’ll be visiting KL to watch a go-kart championship and discuss with the organisers to get more details about the event,” he said, adding that he had been in discussions with several other event organisers on the matter in the last few months.
Law said the state government would try to organise a go-kart championship in the state in the next few months. “We hope such races can be one of many events, besides cultural and religious celebrations, which will rope in tourists,” he told reporters at a press conference at his office in Komtar recently. He also announced that the Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS) will organise the 2009 Orchid Road Show and Sale at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya from Saturday (March 14 ) to March 22. FOMOS president Shamas Sofi said the exhibition will be a run-up to the annual Floral Festival, which will be held at the Penang Botanical Gardens in May this year. “We are keen to promote orchids among Penangites, as they are easy to grow and maintain,” he said. “The public can submit their own plants in the exhibition as well,” said Shamas.
