Theoretical Torque Calculation Metric Threads This calculation is made using the formula contained in the MHH Engineering - Torqueleader catalogue How to use this calculation: 1 Fill in all RED boxes, taking care that the values have the correct unit of measurement. This data can be obtained from the MHH Engineering Catalogue, website or from the relevant British or International standards. 2 Insert the percentage of yield/proof strength to be used in the GREEN box. The default is 90%. This makes allowance for any additional loading that the fastener may receive in service. 3 Read calculated Tightening Torque and Preload in the BLUE box

Thread Type (reference only) Fastener Yield / Proof Stress Pitch Diameter of the thread (D 2) Minor (or root) diameter of the thread. (d3) Pitch of the thread (P) Thread friction coefficient (µH) Underhead coefficient of friction (µH) Outside diameter of the nut bearing surface - A/F size. (DO) Inside diameter of the nut bearing surface - Clearance Dia (Di) % of Yield / Proof Stress Used
