THE TRESTLE : HISTORY Operations began on July 4, 1931 The McKinley Bridge served as Route 66’s first Mississippi crossing. It also played another role as a transition between Route 66 and an earlier form of transportation: the electric interurban railway The interurban rail system was a larger, faster and cheaper version of the electric streetcar that helped develop industry and connect communities on both sides of the Mississippi

The Trestle at Branch Street and the McKinley Bridge Bikeway opened to the public on June 7, 2008.

a unique opportunity exists
Only two other trestles in the world have been successfully transformed: The Promenade Plantée in Paris, France; and The Highline in New York City. The Trestle in St. Louis could be next! Thank You ©2008 Kiku Obata & Company | the HOK Planning Group | HNTB Corporation | Vector Communications
