THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

INTRODUCTION

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

The doctrine of the resurrection is the foundation doctrine of the New Testament. The resurrection is mentioned 104 times in the New Testament. Christianity is the only religion with a living originator. Buddha is dead; Brahma (Hinduism) is dead; Mohammed is dead; Marx (Communism) is dead The boast and glory of Christianity is the empty tomb. Jesus is risen.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

EVIDENCE OF THE RESURRECTION

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

1. The empty tomb. Matt. 28 :6, "He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay." Luke 24:3, "And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus."

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

2. The testimony of angels. Matt. 28 :46 (above), also Luke 24 :5-7, "Why seek you the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how He spoke to you when He was in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

3. People who talked to Him after the resurrection: Peter, Mary, Cleopas and Thomas. 4. Jesus ate and drank, showed His wounds, etc., to friends after the resurrection.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

5. By the 500 who saw Him at one time, I Cor. 15 :6, "After that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep."

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

6. By His appearance to Stephen at his martyrdom, Acts 7 :56, "And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. '

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

7. By His appearance to Paul on the Damascus road, Acts 9:5, "And he said, Who art Thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest."

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

8. By the testimony of millions who have proved Him to be a living Saviour. 9. By many infallible proofs, Acts 1:3.

THEORIES OF THE RESURRECTION

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

1. The fraud theory-that the whole story is a hoax; a deliberate imposture. Answer: History and the Scripture flatly deny such a ridiculous theory. 2. The swoon theory-that Jesus only fainted for the soldiers did not kill Him and that the cool tomb and spices caused Him to revive and come back to life. Answer: The spices were poisonous and would have killed Him instead.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

3. The hallucination theory-The disciples wanted to see Jesus and thought that He would rise so they in their imaginations imagined that they saw Him. Answer: The Scriptures tell us that the disciples were steeped in unbelief and would scarcely believe after seeing Him. Thomas wouldn't believe without touching Him. The disciples were incredulously unbelieving, for which Jesus rebuked them, Luke 24:25.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

4. The ghost theory-They only saw His ghost and thought that it was Jesus. Answer: A ghost does not have flesh and bones or eat and drink, Luke 24:39,43. 5. The myth theory-It was a wild story handed down by the ancients without truth. Answer: The whole canon of Scripture shows the lie to this theory.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

6. The Wrong Tomb Theory - that the finding of an empty tomb is merely the finding of the wrong tomb. This theory states that Jesus’ body was actually in another tomb. Answer: 1) The women noted exactly where the tomb was [Luke 23:55], so it is improbable that every one of the women would make the same mistake 2) Peter and John ran also to the tomb. They would also have had to make the same mistake.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

3) Again, if they went to the wrong tomb, the Romans and Jews would be more than happy to direct them to the correct tomb, with its seal, once the Resurrection was preached! 4) The Wrong Tomb theory ignores the latter bodily appearances of Christ to 500 people. Even if they went to the wrong tomb [which they didn’t as history shows], Jesus still rose and appeared to many people over 40 days and convinced everyone He met that He was indeed alive!

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

7. The true explanation--That Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave as He said that He would. Acts 2:24, "whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

WAS THE RESURRECTION A NEW BELIEF IN THE FIRST CENTURY AD?

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

We learn from the Bible that a rising again from the dead was the hope of the faithful in the ages before the time of Jesus. This is why Jesus said, "Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad" (John 8 v 56).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Peter quoted the words of David, King of Israel: "I foresaw the Lord always before my face... therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope...He (David) seeing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ" (Acts 2 v 2526 & 31 compare Psalm 16 v 8-11).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

David also said, "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness" (Psalm 17 v 15). Job said, "I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God" (Job 19 v 25-26).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Isaiah said, "Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust ... and the earth shall cast out the dead"(Isaiah 26 v 19). Daniel was told that "Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake" and that he personally would rest in the sleep of death and "stand in thy lot at the end of the days" (Daniel 12 v 2 & 13).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

The apostle Paul confirmed that this was the hope of those before Jesus: "I continue unto this day ... saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: that Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people" (Acts 26 v 22-23).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

CHRIST THE FIRST TO RISE TO EVERLASTING LIFE The Bible clearly shows that Jesus was the first to rise from the dead to immortality. Paul wrote, "Our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel" (2 Timothy 1 v 10).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

CHARACTERICTS OF HIS RESURRECTED BODY

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

1. It had flesh and bones, Luke 24:39, "Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I My-self; handle Me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see I have. " 2. It was a glorious body, Phil. 3:21, "Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body."

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

3. It was an immortal body-one that will never die, Rom. 6:9, "Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over Him." 4. It was a spiritual body, I Cor. 15 :44, "It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body."

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

5. The spirit body has the ability to pass through a solid wall, John 20 :19, "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them ... "

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

HOW DID JESUS RISE FROM THE DEAD

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

1. By the power of the Father, Acts 2:23,24, " ... by wicked hands have crucified and slain: whom God hath raised up ... " Also Acts 3:15; Acts 5:30. 2. By the power of Christ Himself, John 2:19, "Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Also John 10 :18. 3. By the power of the Holy Spirit, I Pet. 3:18, " ... being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. '

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

WHY IS THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS IMPORTANT TO HUMANITY?

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Romans 1:3-4 Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of Holiness, by the Resurrection from the dead:

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

The resurrection of Jesus shows to us and proves to us that Jesus is God just as He said that He is. No one else has ever returned from death. We can now be certain that there is a God (Jesus), that our sins are forgiven by God and that we who believe in the forgiveness of our sins, because Jesus died in our place, we too can look forward to our own resurrected life in the presence of God (heaven).

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

2nd Corinthians 4:14 Knowing that He which Raised up the Lord Jesus shall Raise up us also by Jesus, We can be certain that all of our sins have been atoned for by the sacrifice of Jesus on His cross and that Jesus is the acceptable sacrifice because God accepted the sacrifice of Jesus by receiving Jesus/Himself back up into heaven. Only acceptable sacrifices are received by God into heaven.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

1st Corinthians 15:12-22 Now if Christ be preached that He rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? And if Christ be not risen, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain, Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ: Whom he raised not up if so be that the dead raise not. Then is Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

With our own personal identification in the death of Jesus for our sins on the cross with our sins now dead we then become identified with the Life of Jesus and receive His Spirit and take part in His glorious resurrection life. Also see Romans 6: 3-11

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Himself makes it perfectly clear that there is a resurrection of God's people Luke 20:34-38 Abraham along with his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob each lived and died a long time ago. Each died about 4,000 years before the visit/incarnation of Jesus. Yet Jesus called them alive. They are indeed alive right now and living in the presence of God.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

The Cross of Jesus is His Victory over Satan, Sin, Death and the Despair of this World In dying on the cross Jesus provided an end (death) to the agenda of Satan. Colossians 1:12-13 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son:

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

In resurrecting three days later Jesus provided a re-birth to the agenda of God, the original agendaplan of God in a relationship with mankind that He began in the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Colossians 2:12-15 Buried with Him (Jesus) in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; And having spoiled principalities (Satan) and powers (demons), He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, Boldness to Enter into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a New and Living (Resurrection) Way, which He hath Consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say His flesh and having a High Priest (Jesus) over the House of God Let us draw near ... What wonderful news it is that Jesus is Alive! This wonderful, news about the resurrection of Jesus and the reconciliation of sinful man to the Holy God, through the forgiveness of our sins is called the Gospel. The Gospel means just that Good News!

PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

CONCLUSION HE WAS RESURRECTED AND HE IS ALIVE!
