The 10-cent Project

AN OVERVIEW The 10-cent Project is an initiative based on a simple premise: No amount of effort is too small to make a difference. By encouraging every single student in RI(JC) to donate 10 cents a day (equivalent to the cost of sending two SMSes a day!), we hope to inculcate ‘giving’ as a core value in Rafflesians. At the same time we wish amalgamate these small efforts into an engine for action. If every student in RI(JC) donates 10-cents a day for every working day, more than $43000 can be raised for charity in an year. This amount of money is sufficient to feed 2000 people in Cambodia, educate 3000 kids and provide them with basic healthcare for 3 months.

If every single person in RI(JC) sends two less SMSes a day and donates the money he/she saves in an year, we can change 5000 lives!

MODUS OPERANDI All classes in RI(JC) are encouraged to pledge 10-cents per working day per person from MarchJune. This is roughly equivalent to donating $2 a month (equal to the cost of one Oreo McFlurry a month!). The donations will be collected from the class treasurer at the end of every month. Donations from all classes will then be integrated and sent to World Vision (Singapore) and to Metropolitan YMCA.

CHANNELING OF FUNDS The donations will be split up equally and sent to World Vision (WV) and Metropolitan YMCA (MYMCA).

Donations sent to WV will be sent to Cambodia where they will be used to fund the Phnom Penh Street Children Project. The project provides homeless children with accommodation, food, clean clothes, and healthcare and education, providing them the opportunity to leave life on the streets and start a new life.

Donations sent to MYMCA will be used to fund MY Manna - a monthly food ration service that provides food to the elderly living in 1-room flats. They are currently facing a lack of funds, especially with the higher food prices. As a result, the beneficiaries are getting less food to eat! This is an organization that really needs help, and donations will alleviate their situation.

MAKE THE WORLD (AND SINGAPORE!) A BETTER PLACE If you want to make a difference in the lives of the under-privileged, do donate as a class! Additionally, you can also take part in some CIPs (initiated by the 10-cent Project team) as a class. Do contact us for further details!
