“Everything started in England in the early 1800s. In the beginning, the rules changed many times, but in 1863 the Football Association agreed to a set of rules. FIFA organised the first World Cup competition in 1930. Since then it has been played every four years, except during the World War II when it was suspended. Probably the greatest player in the history of football has been Pele, from Brazil. When Pele was 15, the football club Santos chose him and in 1958 he played in the World Cup.”
a. b. c. d. e.
Where did everything begin? What happened in 1893? Is football played in international competitions? When? Where? Who was Pele? Do you like football? Give arguments for your answer.

Read the following text and answer the questions.
“The word January came from Janus – the Roman god of doors. Every door has two sides – one looks forward and the other – backward. So Janus had two faces – one on the front and one on the back of his head. With these faces he could look back to the past year and look forward to the coming year. The first month of the year had a lot of names. The Dutch called it frosty month; the Saxons first called it wolf month, because there was very little food for the wolves and they were very aggressive in this month. Later they called it the first month.”
1. According to the passage, where did the word January come from? 2. How else did people call the first month of the year? 3.Why did the Saxons call it wolf month? 4. Talk about your favourite month of the year.
