Where? The International School is located in Carpina, Brazil. It is a medium sized town (about 70,000 people) located in the northeastern region of Pernambuco. Carpina is located 2500 miles below the Amazon region and 1,500 miles above Rio de Janeiro. As you can see, Brazil is a large country! The Northeast has a very laid back and traditional culture. In terms of the US, it might be described as a mixture of the "traditional south" and the "wild west".

What are the requirements? We are looking for energetic & hard-working individuals who love the Lord. People who love culture, languages, and missions would be a great fit. Background in education is a plus, but not required. Applicants need to be over the age of 20.

What you could teach

Mission Statement Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 It is the mission of the International School of Carpina to inspire development and excellence in all of our students, so that they may achieve their full academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual potential. We believe that by providing a Christian education we are equipping our students with the values of character that will prepare them to be the leaders of an ever-changing society. In order to achieve this goal, the staff at the International School works closely with students, parents, and the community as a whole. Above all, we seek to share the love of Jesus Christ with the people of Brazil.

Teach English for one to six months in Brazil! Why do we need you? Equipping leaders means providing a complete and relevant education. The most prominent reason parents choose to send their child to the International School of Carpina is the English department. English is the current lingua franca of the world and parents know that it is imperative for future leaders to be able to communicate effectively. Our school is the only school in the region to exclusively use native English speakers to teach English. In order to maintain the International School as the regional standard in English education, the involvement of people like you is crucial.

Why short-term? The extreme difficulty of obtaining long term visas for Brazil means that we need to supplement our teaching team with short-term teachers willing to invest one to six months at our school. Some benefits to teaching short-term in Brazil include experiencing another culture and getting a taste of mission without a long-term commitment.

How does it help financially? The International School was started as an outreach ministry to the upper-middle class. As the school has grown, it as become capable of helping with expenses involved in keeping the doors of the ministry headquarters open. The building houses a community church, the seminary, and the ministry's retreats and programs. Needless to say, it is in constant use! We are blessed to have a building that can be used in so many ways. .

The school rents the facility from the World Renewal Brazil. In this way, money is funneled back into the ministry.

As the value of the US dollar declines, there is an even greater need for the ministry to be financially self-sufficient. As the school grows, it will allow funds to move from the school to other areas of the ministry. The school will have the capability to sponsor church-plants, while it instructs the children who may one day be leaders of those churches.
