Answer on Question #84133 - physics - Relativity

1. With what constant velocity must a person travel from the centre to the edge of our galaxy in order to cover the distance of 3 × 104 light years in 40 years? Solution. Calculate the velocity of the person by the relation as follows: 𝑉=

𝐷 𝑇

Here D is the total distance to be travelled and T is the time taken for travelling the distance. Substitute 3 × 104 light year =2.83 × 1020 𝑚 and 1.26 × 109 sec for T. 𝑉=

2.83 × 1020 𝑚 = 2.24 × 1011 𝑚/𝑠𝑒𝑐 1.26 × 109 𝑠𝑒𝑐 𝑉 = 8.08 × 1011 𝑘𝑚/ℎ𝑟

Answer: 𝑉 = 8.08 × 1011 𝑘𝑚/ℎ𝑟
