National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States 301 &th Street SW Room 5125 Barry Wendt Washington, DC 20407 9625 Russell Road Las Vegas, NV 89148 702-860-9444 Gentlemen; I can prove through personal experience, that 911 was preventable and that the CIA was in fact proactive in insuring that such an event would not occur. In the summer of 2000, as the CEO of a public company specializing in Biometric Identification technology, I was approached by the CIA wherein they wanted to know why my Company had not responded to an RFQ from American Airlines. This RFQ had literally been written for my Company's technology as no other Biometric technology solution existed at the time that could fulfill American Airlines requirements. Two pilot projects had been approved by American Airlines for securing airport facilities including employee access control and passenger to manifest and passenger to baggage matching. There is a high probability that deployment of this system would have prevented 911. American Airlines and the CIA were very proactive, forward thinking and they knew there was a potential problem that needed solving, however, after two years of associated communication and development, I couldn't get my board of directors to commit to a rollout of the technology. How sad, after thousands of innocent American lives lost, a war in Afghanistan, a war in Iraq, the entire airlines industry in distress and a suffering national economy, I subsequently find out that there is a likely connection between my inability to get the Company to roll out the test projects for American Airlines and significant personal health issues that convinced me to leave the Company. Sincerely,
Barry tfvendt
