Budget Campaign Continues The St. Marys Community Public Library is still concerned about the State of Ohio Biennium Budget. As this newsletter goes to press, the budget will be leaving the Senate and heading to a Conference Committee made up of House and Senate members. As

proposed by the governor and approved by the House funding levels for 2005 will remain the same as in 2004. Beginning January 1, 2006 library funding will be reduced by 5%. The budget also proposes a 21% reduction of personal income tax rates. This reduction is effective in 2005 and will be spread over five years at 4.2% per year. We do not know the effect that this income tax reduction will have on library funding. The St. Marys Community Public Library Board and Staff are encouraging our patrons to write letters to our government officials. The talking points for the letters, as suggested by the Ohio Library Council, continually change. For the latest information on this, stop by the Library and pick up the current talking points and addresses or visit our website at www.stmarys.lib.oh.us. We will know the final word on the budget on or before June 30, 2005. Please do your part to keep Ohio libraries open and equally available to all.
