Summary of Key Concepts: 1. Presentation must provide the audience with an experience to remember. 2. Presentation must have an Introduction, Body and End. 3. An introduction must be interesting, unusual, unexpected. Convey to the audience the need, range and objectives of the presentation. If possible give them an estimated time. 4. You may use a joke to start with. But don’t use jokes if you are not sure whether they will be well received. Don’t even practice to forcefully crack a joke. 5. Presentation slides should be different than posters. 6. The presentation mix should be used tactfully: i) Why and Who should Plan? ii) What to Prepare? iii) How to Practice? iv) When and Where to Present? 7. Remember the K.I.S.S. Principle. 8. Planning of the time allotted and the resources available should be done skillfully. 9. Plan what will be the sub-topics and their flow in your presentation. 10. Prepare your presentation by making slides or handouts. 11. Prepare notes for key topics. 12. Use graphics and images; minimum text and numbers; light text on dark background; large font size; upper and lower case; colors to highlight text. 13. Use audio visual tools/clippings to create interest about the topic. 14. Keep figures simple, clear to understand and images of good resolution. 15. Don’t use distracting backgrounds in your slide. 16. Practice what you have prepared to know the possible pitfalls. 17. Get feedback from others and use it to improve your presentation. 18. Practice should cover the opening, logical flow of topics and the closing. 19. Practice helps to reduce nerves. 20. Don’t emphasize more on your physical appearance. Wear clean, tidy, comfortable clothes. 21. Be focused and don’t do anything new or extra-ordinary while giving the presentation. 22. Make an eye contact with the audience. 23. Stand firmly. Don’t move around too much or too little. 24. Speak loudly and clearly. Use your pitch and pace effectively to convey key concepts. 25. Your rate of speech should not be too fast or too slow. 26. Speak confidently. 27. Your pronunciation shouldn’t carry any accent. Use simple words and short sentences. 28. Ask relevant questions to the audience to create rapport and give them a feel of participation. Appreciate the audience once you get some good answer from them. 29. Give a summary at the end of the presentation. 30. Conclude the topic by giving some conclusion. 31. Ask questions to audience and try to give the best possible answer you know. 32. If you don’t know the answer, don’t hesitate to accept it and make a promise to find out the answer. 33. Success of a presentation depends upon how well the audience understood the topic. 34.
