Recommended Study Problems for CHEM 2220 Doing problems is the best way to learn, if you keep your brain engaged while doing them. It is not enough just to go through the motions. You must solve the problem you are working on, but after doing this you must review the principles the problem taught you. This is a learning experience, not simply repetitive practice of automatic tasks. If you did not find the correct answer, it is crucial that you go back over your approach to the problem, not only the factual material to justify the correct answer. Even if you got the problem correct, you must explicitly relate the logic of your answer to the course material, and ask whether there might be other ways in which the question could be viewed that could be equally valid. In each Chapter of Fox and Whitesell, do the “Exercises” that appear in the body of the text, as you read through the text material. These short questions serve to illustrate the material just presented. When you have completed the Chapter, you can then do the Review Problems and some of the Supplementary Problems. The suggestions below should be considered minimal requirements for success in CHEM 2220.
