2. Product Introduction SP Widget provides Silicon Power storage devices with many useful software features, which are designed to help you back up and encrypt personal data. With the use of SP Widget, you are able to perform the following tasks with your portable storage devices. • [Project Backup] Scheduled backup function. • [Data encryption] File and data encryption for protection. • [My Favorite backup] Backup and restore Safari, Google Chrome bookmarks • [File Classification] Categorize files and save in portable storage device. • [Data in the Cloud] Online management of your data stored in cloud storage. • [Storage Device Information] Provide Information about portable storage devices connected.

4. Getting Started 4.1 Installing SP Widget Before using SP Widget, go to Silicon Power’s official website to download SP Widget Mac software. http://www.silicon-‐power.com Execute the downloaded file, which installs SP Widget to Application folder.

4.2 Main Screen Every time when SP Widget is launched, main screen appears. (Figure 4.2.1) Please note that the software requires at least one portable storage device connected to the system in order to operate, otherwise, the software terminates.

5. Project Backup Function Select [Project backup], there are [Backup] and [Restore]. (Figure 5.1)

[Backup] provides the information required to proceed backup. User must configure required information to proceed backup. Here is an example of making a Backup project. As shown in figure 5.2, there are 3 options: 1. Add new backup project 2. Edit existing backup project 3. Delete existing backup project. When Delete is performed, both backup project and the backup data are removed.

Select Add and the screen shown in figure 5.3 appears. Configure the four steps required to complete project backup setup.

Step 1: enter Project information. [Project name]: the name must be unique and not the same if you have multiple projects. Backup data is saved under project name. So, projects must not have the same name. [Comment]: you can fill in information about this project. The functions inside red box shown in figure 5.3: [Delete former copy before Tasks starts]: previous backup copy file is automatically removed and replaced with the new backup copy. Backup project only has one backup copy. Do not enable this option if you wish to keep every backup copy when backup is performed. [Compress backup]: backup file is compressed and saved. Please note that original files are compressed instead of compressing all files into one single file. Password: password protection for your compressed project backup file. When enabled, enter the same password you wish to use in both Password and Confirm fields. Please note when password is enabled, if password is lost, it would be unable to restore the backup.

Step 4: Set “Task schedule” for scheduled backup There are 4 options: Select “none” to start backup manually, and click Start button to initiate backup. (Figure 5.6) Select “Daily” and set time to schedule automatic backup to start once every day. (Figure 5.7) Select “Weekly” and set time to schedule automatic backup to start on selected days every week. (Figure 5.8) Select “Monthly” and set time to schedule automatic backup to start on selected days every month. (Figure 5.9) Please note that “Backup initial time” must be set and SP Widget must be open at the time of scheduled automatic backup in order for backup to run.

Click “Finished” to complete setup, and save the backup project.

Go through step 1 and 2 before restore from backup can be started: Step 1: Select the date & time of the backup file that you want to restore. Note: The lock and unlock icons shown in the red box in figure 5.16 indicate password protected and no password protection respectively. 21

Go to Step 2: Figure 5.17 shows the screen when no password protected backup file is selected for restore. Figure 5.18 shows the screen when password protected backup file is selected for restore.

Step 2: Select restore destination. “Restore to original path” restores the backup files to the same location where the files are backup from. “Restore to other path” restores the backup files to desired location. If password protected backup file is selected in Step 1, then Password must be entered to proceed. Figure 5.18 In case the restore destination has files with the same file name, especially in the case of “Restore to original path”, select one of the three ways to proceed with restore. 1. [Latest file]: files are compared and the latest file overwrites the older. 2. [Override]: backup files will always overwrite the existing file with the same file name. 3. [Skip]: if file with the same file name exists in the destination, restore will ignore and backup file will not be restored. Click “Start” to initiate Restore.

6. Data Encryption Function
Click [Data encryption] from the function menu, the Data encryption screen appears as shown in figure 6.1 Data encryption function includes methods to encrypt and decrypt data.

After select, click “-‐” to remove unwanted items or “-‐(All)” to remove all item and select again. Enter password, then click “Start” to precede encryption.

After encryption, a file with the same name added with “spe” extension is generated and saved in the same folder. When “Delete original file(s)” is enabled, the original file(s) will be deleted after encryption is completed.
Please note, APP and PKG file types are not supported by Data encryption function.

To decrypt: click “Decryption” tab from the main window

7. My Favorite backup
Click [My Favorite backup], Safari and Google Chrome are the only two browsers that are supported. Select the browser that you want to backup your bookmark.

Before proceeding bookmark backup, please make sure the browser is closed and quitted completely from Dock.

Then select the actions you want to proceed, i.e. backup or restore as shown in figure 7.2 for backup and figure 7.3 for restore.

8. File Classification
File Classification can help you to filter the files by the file extension, and save them to portable storage devices. Click [File Classification] from function menu.

There are four file types defined by default: document, video, photo and music.

You can edit the predefined file types by “Modify” and add new defined file types by “+”

When the files are the same file type, a screen appears asking you to select a folder or create new folder to save the files.

Please note: APP and PKG file types are not supported. Undefined file types will be copied and saved to folder “Others”

Click “List” to open the pre-‐defined folder to view the files.

When you drag and drop a file with pre-‐defined file extension, e.g. .doc, .jpg and etc., SP Widget will create a set of pre-‐defined folders under a new folder called “SP Data”. Please note that for files with file types of undefined file extension, when drag and drop, they will be saved in the root folder of your portable storage devices.

9. Data in the Cloud Click [Data in the Cloud] from function menu as shown in figure 9.1

SP Widget support files download and upload of Google Drive and Dropbox. The function works the same for both. We use Google Drive for demonstration.

Login screen appears if use for the first time. Follow the instruction of the screen to select “Current user 36

account” to enter login information as shown in Figure 9.2, if you have a Google or Dropbox account. Else, select “New user account” if you don’t have a Google or Dropbox account. If you are login to Google Drive already, then screen in figure 9.3 would appear asking whether you want to use current user account or a new user.

After successful login as shown in figure 9.5, you can view the files stored in the Cloud. You can tell whether it’s a file or folder, e.g. a file shown in red box in figure 9.5. If it’s a folder you can click on it to view the files.

You can go to the upper folder level by clicking “<—” Back or “…” button in figure 9.5. You can select files or folders to upload to the Cloud by dragging, dropping or clicking the “…” button as shown in figure 9.6 Data upload starts automatically when files and folders are dragged and dropped into the window. When files and folders are manually selected, then click “Start” to begin uploading. When upload, the files will be saved one by one in sequence in the current folder. Please note APP and PKG file types are not supported for upload and download.

Data download from Cloud as shown in the red box of figure 9.9. Please select the files or folders that you want to download. Use default destination folder or click “…” to change the destination where files are to be saved. Click “Start” to initiate data download.

10. Storage Device Information Click [Storage Device Information] from main function menu as shown in figure 10.1 Device information shows the following: [Version]: version of SP Widget software [Device name]: the name of the selected storage device in use. When there is more than one storage device connected to the system, you can select the one to be used here. [Format]: the file format of the storage device. [Total space]: the total memory size capacity of the storage device. [Space available]: the unused and available memory storage space in the storage device.

11. Software Language In [Language] function screen, you may select the language based on your preference. AUTO option uses the language based on your system language, and English will be used if your system language is not one of the five supported languages. SP Widget software supports five languages, e.g. English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Russian.
