Maribeth S. Narrative Analysis My Simple Narrative Situation: Panel 1; The patient is angry. Complication: Panel 2, Panel 3, Panel 4; The phone rings. The caller (agent) asks the patient why she is angry. The patient responds that she doesn't know what to write about for her simple narrative assignment. Solution: Panel 5, Panel 6, and Panel 7; The agent suggests that the patient write about her day. This makes a light bulb go off above the patient's head. Denoument: Panel 8; The patient scribbles away. "He Had a Funny Face" by Drew Friedman Situation: Panel 1, Panel 2, and Panel 3; Various agents establish the the patient has a funny face. Complication: Panel 4, Panel 5, Panel 6; A complicator suggests to the patient that his funny face can attain fame and money for him in Hollywood. Situation #2: Panel 7 and Panel 8; The patient is on his way to Hollywood. Complication #2: Panel 9, Panel 10, and Panel 11; The patient's interaction with alchohol complicates his situation. Solution: Panel 12; The complicator causes the patient to drive off a cliff. Denoument: Panel 13, Panel 14, Panel 15, Panel 16; The patient decays at the scene of the crash, loosing his funny face, possibly gaining a funny skull. "Messenger of Death" by Mark Beyer Situation: Panel 1, Panel 2, Panel 3, and Panel 4; A toothpaste salesman and his dangerous dogs cannot persuade a lady to buy the toothpaste. Complication: Panel 5; Patient throws toothpaste salesman out of her house. Situation #2: Panel 6; Salesman left toothpaste behind. Complication #2: Panel 7; Toothpaste attacks. Solution: Panel 8; Toothpaste kills patient. (Implied) Denoument: Patient dies.
