This has a list of all the Ethernet cards discovered during the scan This will instruct the wizard to write appropriate done by this wizard. In this case there are two entries in the ipconfig file. This is the file that Ethernet cards the 1st and 2nd. The 1st card Linux always reads to know the configuration represents eth0, the 2nd card represents eth1 bound to a specific Ethernet card, in this case and so on. Select the 1st and click Forward. eth0. The Configure Network Settings screen opens up.
Diagram 1.8 The Network configuration screen opens once again. Now, however eth0 is displayed as shown in diagram 1.8. Click on Edit to change the Nickname from eth0 to anything more descriptive. In the General tab that appears over write the Nickname eth0, with a name of your choice.
Diagram 1.6 The IP address is going to be entered manually, click the Statically set IP Addresses radio button. In Address enter an IP address, which will identify the computer on the network. In Subnet Mask enter a subnet mask value (or accept the default which displays immediately). If the computer logins in to the Internet then in the Default Gateway Address enter the IP of the We used DAX to differentiate between the DAX computer which is the gateway to the Internet on card and the OnBoard Ethernet card in our the Network (or delete any default value system. Note Eth0 was loaded with a Default Gateway Address because this computer itself is the gateway to the Internet.
Explaining The Internet Gateway The broadband Internet connectivity providers provided the IP address and the Subnet mask values loaded into eth0. Hence eth0 is the actual, physical gateway to the Internet. eth1 is the Ethernet card via which other computers on the network will access the Linux computer and in turn the Internet to which the Linux computer is the gateway.

To do this first click on the Hardware tab in the Network Conf. Screen as shown in diagram 1.24.Next select eth0. Here eth0 is shown, as Linux recognizes Ethernet cards by their ID numbers.
