HP FEATURE’s DESCRIPTION
HP 3D DRIVE GUARD- (S.B, P, W) •
It helps protect the information on your hard drive from accidental damage caused by short drops, rough handling, excessive vibration, with two protection policies: ¾ Ready state - For routine use, when the notebook is open and stationary— even on a moving vehicle like a train or plane—HP 3D DriveGuard automatically parks the drive head when it senses a sudden movement. ¾ Enhanced state - When the notebook is closed and in motion, HP 3D Drive Guard parks the drive head indefinitely. This lets you transport your PC safely whether you’re in standby mode or not. An external LED indicator reassures you that your hard drive is safely parked when you’re on the move. E.G – Say while travelling by your car to a certain place you might experience sudden jerks and bumps, it is at this time that this feature functions to protect the hard drive from getting damaged. BENEFIT to the customer : Recent improvements in hard drive and data protection have reduced hard drive replacement rates in HP notebooks by over 50 percent. Enhanced notebook reliability which means less downtime, fewer repairs and better return on the IT investment.
2. MIL-STD-810 Series of Military Standard- (P, W) • • •
A standard that is fulfilled by ELITE NOTEBOOK’s (i.e. P,W class) It proves that the ELITE NOTEBOOK’s are resistant against vibration, shock, dust, Humidity, High altitude, High and Low Temperature. This is a standard which the military equipments like Tank are supposed to meet.
3.HP’s DURA CASE- (P, W) • •
This is a new feature. This is a combination of five elements-
1. Metal hinges- adds durability to withstand the repetitive opening and closing of your notebook. Strong metal alloy hinges with hardened steel pin axles are designed to withstand extensive use.
2. 3. 4. 5.
e.g. - over a period of time the display becomes loose, however with metal hinges the strength of the display becomes higher. Magnesium/Alloy Display enclosure- this makes the display enclosure strong and more rigid. Dura Finish- a durable, scratch-resistant surface coating used on palm rests and display cover. It makes your notebook 6 times, more scratch resistant. Magnesium Alloy Chassis- Unlike an ordinary plastic chassis, the magnesium alloy chassis makes the bottom of the notebook very strong and rugged. 4 Point lock down Latches- Thus unlike the ordinary latches, the 4 point latches provide for a better locking of the notebook which is useful at the time of jerks bumps etc.
HP’s QUICK LOOK BUTTON -(B, P , W) • • •
This helps you in accessing your e-mails, calendar, tasks and contact information within seconds all at the touch of a button. All this can be accessed even before the computer boots. Thus say if you have a flight to catch but want to urgently look for some contact information stored on your notebook you do not need to waste time in waiting for your computer to boot with the option of Quick look button.
2 MP WEB CAM-(P, W) • •
The web cam has a special feature of a business card reader, thus you can scan a business card and take its information directly to Ms Outlook. The best part about this is that it is an intelligent device which stores information in such a way that email information, telephone numbers, fax numbers, company name etc go directly to their appropriate boxes.
HP’s SPARE KEY-(S, B, P, W) • •
It may happen that you forget your log in password. In that case if you had enabled the option of SPARE KEY, and had saved three personal questions with their answers, then with the help of the Spare Key Option you can get access to your system by answering those three simple personal questions.
SPILL RESISTANT KEYBOARD (B, P, W ) •
Help protect sensitive electronics and key components from minor spills that might otherwise cause system failure with this thin layer of Mylar film under the keyboard.

HP FILE SANITIZER(S, B , P , W ) • This helps in permanently deleting individual files, folders and other information from the HARD DRIVE. • Thus no one can recover that DATA. • Even after deleting the files from the desktop, my documents etc the files can be recovered from the hard drive. • This is a very useful to say banks, IT Consultants etc who want proper authentication that there old data has been convincingly or permanently deleted.
HP PROTECT TOOLS 1. HP DRIVE ENCRYPTION: This helps in encrypting the data so that even if your notebook is stolen or lost nobody can access or use the information stored on the hard drive. What it does is that once someone uses your hard drive in some other notebook the hard drive will ask for a password which was used by you, hence it restricts anyone from gaining access to the information stored on the hard drive. 2.
HP DEVICE ACCESS MANAGER: The computer administrator can restrict copying, deleting, saving etc base on his preferences. Like for e.g. he may allow guests to only copy information but not delete any.
TOUCH PAD SCROLL ZONE: • •

It helps in creating an ideal desktop like computing experience for a mobile environment. In a way it helps you by fixing your notebook at position which makes for easy reading, faster typing etc. It also provides several extra ports. You can connect the notebook to the docking station and that docking station would be already pre-connected say to a mouse, speaker, printer etc, thus no need to connect these separately one by one , this way you save your time.
•
Even HP S series has a docking station; you can connect it to a USB 2.0 Port (a service provided only by HP in India) and can use it for your convenience.
TPM EMBEDDED CHIP ( B, P , W ) • • •
•
TPM- Trusted Platform Module. In this case there is a code of the notebook that has to match with the code of the hard drive for the data to be read. Hence if your hard drive is stolen, then nobody can access your information stored on the hard drive by putting your hard drive into a different system as the code of the system has to match with the code given to the hard drive for the data to be read. And these two codes are unique they match only for one set and no other.
E SATA PORT: (W) • •
•
SATA-Serially Advanced Technology Attachment. eSATA is a External Serial ATA interface. Serial ATA is a commonly used interface for internal Hard Drives, and eSATA is an extension of that specification to be used with external devices. Has a transfer rate of up to 1.5 GB/sec.
HDMI PORT (W) • • •
HDMI- High Definition multimedia interface. Has a transfer rate of up to 10 GB/Sec. Thus if you had made an HDMI Video clip to be shown to your vendors or clients, then with an HDMI port you can show him the movie in the same High Definition format as you had prepared the movie with. If the port isn’t there then it may happen that the video shown is unclear or lacks the same sharpness with which it was made.

It provides additional storage or a faster dedicated second hard drive .The second optional hard drive can be put in the laptop by replacing the Optical Drive. It is an easy back-up solution without burdening network resources One can also enjoy dual HDD support with the help of RAID. It increases data reliability and also increases input output performance. ¾ RAID (Redundant array of inexpensive disk) (0) – Striping for performance So with striping the data gets stored in the two separate hard drives equally. For e.g. If there was data like say 1, 2, 3,4,5,6… With striping 1, 3, 5 gets stored in the 1st hard drive and 2, 4,6 gets stored in the 2nd hard drive. ¾ RAID (Redundant array of inexpensive disk) (1) – Mirroring for data protection. For e.g. If there is data like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Then 1,2,3,4,5,6 gets stored in the 1st hard drive and exactly the same 1,2,3,4,5,6 gets stored in the 2nd hard drive, hence a mirror image.
