Peka Science (1) Activity
: To investigate how the length of a simple pendulum affects its swing.
Aim
: To study the relationship between the length of a pendulum and the time taken for the simple pendulum to swings.
Problem Statement
: what is the relationship between the length of a simple pendulum and the time taken for the simple pendulum to swing.
Hypothesis
:When the length of a simple pendulum is shortened it will swing faster.
Variable
a)constant
:Weight of pendulum bob.
b)manipulated
:Length of a simple pendulum (c)
Material
:Pendulum bob, string
Apparatus
:Retort stand, meter rude and stop chock, champ.
Responds
:Time for 10 swings.
Procedure. 1. 2. 3.
Prepare a simple pendulum with a 10 cm long thread. Record the time taken for 10 complete swings in a table. Repeat the experiment using a simple pendulum of a different length as shown in the table.
Draw a graph showing the length of pendulum versus time taken for complete swings. Experiment 1 2 3 4 5
Length of simple Pendulum 10 20 30 40 50
Time taken for 10 complete swings 6 12 18 24 30
Result: Now. Plot a graph of the length of the pendulum against time taken for the simple pendulum to make 10 complete swings. Analysis:
1. From the graph we can say that the pendulum with a longer string swings more slow than the pendulum 2.
with a shorter swing. The time taken for the pendulum to make 10 complete swings will be slow when the pendulum string is longer. From the results, the hypothesis is when the length of simple pendulum is shortened, it will swing faster.
Conclusion:-the time taken for the simple pendulum to make one complete swing depends on the length of the pendulum strings
