SAP Activate Methodology for SAP S/4HANA Cloud AcceleratorsDownload Project Plan OverviewContent Overview This Roadmap is intended to guide the implementation team through the SAP S/4HANA Cloud implementation. It is comprised of Phases, Deliverables, and Tasks in accordance with the SAP Activate methodology. In addition, accelerators are linked to the relevant deliverables and tasks making them easy to consume when they are needed. The Deliverables and Tasks are listed in sequential order based on the activity start. However, parallelization is necessary to expedite the implementation. The Roadmap covers the implementation of the core SAP S/4HANA Cloud solution. Projects that include integrations to other cloud solutions may alter the procedures.

1. Discover The purpose of the Discover phase is for the customer to understand the breadth, depth and functionality of SAP S/4HANA, and the benefits it can bring to customers’ business. During this phase, the customers should become familiar with the value of SAP S/4HANA in general (e.g. the new and simplified functionality in SAP S/4HANA, the new User Interface based on FIORI, agile customer innovations using SAP Cloud Platform etc.). A trial system in the cloud could support this.

To prepare in this phase, customers should use the valuable information sources on SAP S/4HANA listed in the accelerators section:

  

 

The SAP S/4HANA Flipbook at SAP.com lists general information on SAP S/4HANA – ideal for customers who are not familiar with SAP S/4HANA. The SAP S/4HANA Journeymap is on the same level, and lists five simple steps to drive quick time-to-value. There is a vibrant community on SAP S/4HANA at the SAP Community Network. A comprehensive overview documentation for SAP S/4HANA, including detailed explanation of functional capabilities, transition options, and links to more detailed information is provided by the “SAP S/4HANA Cookbook.” Customers who are interested in SAP Fiori should visit the SAP User Experience (Fiori) Community. Customers and partners, who want to build de-coupled extensions for SAP S/4HANA using the SAP Cloud Platform find very helpful information at SCN (see “Extensibility if SAP S/4HANA” in the accelerator section).

At the end of this phase the customer and the sales team come to a jointly agreed description of the implementation scope, overall project timelines and target solution model.

Key Prepare Activities:    

Define project goals, a high-level scope, and a project plan Identify and quantify business value objectives Secure executive sponsorship Establish project standards, organization and governance

      

Define and secure approval for the implementation/upgrade strategy Define roles and responsibilities for the project team Validate the project objectives Establish project management, tracking, and reporting mechanisms for value delivery Begin self-enablement Receive and access the cloud Starter System Kick off the project

Explore The purpose of this phase is to perform a Fit-to-Standard analysis to validate the solution functionality included in the project scope and to confirm that the business requirements can be satisfied. Identified gaps and configuration values are added to the backlog for use in the next phase.

Explore Activities:        

Project Management Execution, Monitoring and Controlling Customer Project Team Enablement Fit-to-Standard Analysis Configuration Definition Integration Prerequisites Confirmation Solution Extension Preparation Data Load Preparation Phase Closure

In the Explore phase, industry and solution experts from SAP lead a series of structured showand-tell and solution design workshops. The goal of these workshops is to review the best practice functionalities of the SAP solution, identify delta requirements or gaps and determine the configuration of the SAP cloud solution.

Realize The purpose of this phase is to use a series of iterations to incrementally build and test an integrated business and system environment that is based on the business processes and process requirements identified in the previous phase. During this phase, data is loaded, adoption activities occur, and operations are planned.

Realize Activities:        

Establish the solution landscape Implement the solution in the quality environment using incremental build in time-boxed iterations Conduct overall end-to-end testing of the solution Setup production environment Prepare for data migration and data archiving Conduct project team and key user training Finalize end user training materials and documentation Track and report on value delivery

During Realize phase, the project team uses a series of iterations to incrementally configure, test, confirm, and document the entire end-to-end solution and to load data. The project team actively works with business representatives to ensure good fit of the built solution. The project team releases results of multiple iterations to the business users to accelerate time to value and provide early access to finalized functionality. Link to Content 5. Deploy

The purpose of this phase is to setup the production system, confirm customer organization readiness, and to switch business operations to the new system.

Deploy Activities:  

  

Finalize the solution and business processes for production go-live Resolve all crucial open issues o Conduct system tests o Proceed with cutover activities including data migration Execute transition and cutover plans including organizational change management (OCM) plans Complete all scheduled end user training Track and report on value delivery

Link to Content 6. Run The purpose of this phase is to further optimize and automate the operability of the solution. Operability is the ability to maintain IT systems in a functioning and operating condition, guaranteeing systems availability and required performance levels to support the execution of the enterprise’s business operations.
