Samuel Taylor Coleridge is a critic and as well as poet of the Romantic Revival. And for which he is often called as the most romantic of the romantic poets. Because Romantic Revival is a term loosely applied to a movement in European literature. Poet of those period gave reaction toward the classicism and then give their views throughout their works. It was marked by rejection of the ideals and rules of classicism and neoclassicism and by an affirmation of the need for a freer, more subjective expression of passion, pathos and personal feelings. It begins with the publication of lyrical ballad in the late 18th century and continued until the middle of the nineteenth century classicism. S T Coleridge poem Dejection: An Ode is one of the prominent autobiographical poem. The poem is based on the poet frustration and representation of his numbness to his Lady, who is refer to Sara Hutchinson. Originally the verse is written to Wordsworth. But there is no clear idea that for whom that the poet going to address so its is some time said that it is refer to Sara Hutchinson, Coleridge and poole. But Coleridge said it is refer to all. The first full version of Dejection was called ‘Verses to Sara Hutchinson. There was some private matter which was omitted later on. The final version was printed in the Morning Post on October 4th, Wordsworth’ wedding Day. Samual Taylor Coleridge’s Dejection: An Ode contain elements of Romanticism. Although the poem lack in imagination. But the Poem is about the importance of imagination in poet’s life after the state of depression. The poet tries to compensate his despair and grief with the help of imagination and creative powers of nature. The reflection of internal beauty which enhances the outer structure of person was one of the characteristics of Romanticism.
