Windows in Safe Mode Safe Mode - is a diagnostic mode used by certain computer operating systems such as Microsoft Windows. In safe mode operations: 1. A reduced functionality 2. Loads as few executable modules as possible 3. Provides minimal access to features Causes of a sudden safe mode action: a. disk corruption b. installation of poorly configured software
Windows in Safe Mode 1. How do we know that it is in a safe mode operation? - it loads a strange looking Windows desktop with the words Safe Mode in the four corners. 2. What should you do if your computer boots to Safe Mode? - First, try to determine what has changed on your system that could have caused Windows to fail to boot properly. - If you have added any kind of hardware, go to the Control Panel and remove it and uninstall the software driver for that device. Then attempt a reboot. If Windows boots properly, you can be reasonably certain that there was some type of conflict with the device and try to resolve it.
How to start Windows in Safe Mode
MANUAL MANIPULATIONS 1. Press the power button on your computer to start it. 2. As soon as you see that your computer has powered on, begin pressing the [F8] key. 3. You should be prompted with a screen that includes several options. Near the top of the screen, you should see "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Network Support". 4. Press the Up or Down arrows to select "Safe Mode". 5. Press Enter.
How to start Windows in Safe Mode To use the System Configuration Utility method • • • • •
Close all open programs. Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted. The computer restarts in Safe mode. Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode. When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
