RJ 45 Connector 3D simulation in the digital world: This example shows the calculation of a RJ45 connection concerning the propagation of digital pulses. The model consists of the connector and the corresponding socket, each containing eight wires for the signal transmission. The wires of the socket are fixed to a substrate plate, every other of them additionally connected to a metallic ground plane. This provides some kind of shielding effect for the transmission of the wire signals.

The overlay feature of MICROWAVE STUDIOs postprocessing engine allows the plotting of several field magnitudes into one picture.

The connector has been excited by a digital pulse (2 ns hold time). The graph shows the input pulse (red), the transmitted pulse (purple). Pulse run time and signal integrity quality can be seen. Furthermore the reflection (green) and coupling into neigboured lines (e.g. dark and light blue) are shown. The calculation time amounts to 11 minutes.
