The quality of the sites can vary enormously. There are a number of checks you can apply to information you find on the Internet. -

Does the article include ‘edu’? If so which educational institute is it? Does the article have an acknowledged author? How does the information complement of contradict the information you have already read? - Is it clearly biased? - What is the interpretation being presented? - Does the article contain footnotes so that you can trace the author’s sources? - Do you recognise any of the works cited in the footnotes or bibliography? - Is it written by a student or adult? Can you tell? How might this affect its usefulness? The above questions should help you work out whether the site is useful by placing it in the context of ‘legitimate’ professional history.
