Frontcourt: BMike Davis and Mike Tisdale scored, but the Illini allowed too many baskets in the paint. And it wasn’t like Boise State is a team with a lot of size that overpowers anyone inside.

Backcourt: BGuard Demetri McCamey is the most important player on the team. As he goes, the Illini go. They need him in the game, something brought home during the win at Clemson. Illinois must learn to stop dribble penetration and take care of the ball. McCamey had six turnovers.

Bench: CThe Illini bench found contributions from only three players — Dominique Keller, Bill Cole and Jeff Jordan. With Alex Legion playing his way out of the rotation and Tyler Griffey still learning on the fly, Illinois is down to an eightman rotation.

Overall: CThe Illini were fortunate to avoid an upset loss that would have tarnished that win at Clemson on Wednesday. Come to think of it, a seven-point win that was much closer than the score indicated didn’t do much for Illinois’ reputation. Grades by JOHN SUPINIE
