This is the final set of reference questions for the course. The answer for these 25 questions from three sources of information ( print , Buley Databases, and the Internet questions) 1. What is the name of the archbishop of Canterbury? •
•
The analysis of the question - This is a ready reference question that need to be answered by a subject biography (religion) or General biographies that provide an access to its content by the persons’ title or job or the subject that could be related to that person, that’s because we don’t know the name of that person, that way we could easily search for the archbishop of Canterbury which is a religious leader or position. - Since the question didn’t specify if we need to know the current archbishop of Canterbury or just one of them, I’ll assume that we need the current name, so we have to search for it in the latest edition of the print biographies available at the library, and because most of the libraries now don’t have the latest print edition of most of their reference books, and they prefer to get the electronic version of these reference, it could be possible to search for the electronic version of one of the biography resources. - Because I don’t have an access to the latest edition of the suitable General biography resources like The Cambridge biographical encyclopedia, or even the New encyclopaedia Britannica, and also there is no access to one of the subject or selective print biographies like Encyclopedia of Religion, or Who’s Who in Religion, or Christianity, I’ll try to search for the answer in the electronic biographical resources in Buley databases to get the name of the archbishop of Canterbury. - I tried Credo searching box using these terms (current archbishop of Canterbury) I limited the answer to biographies but I couldn’t get the answer using these terms, it was a long list of biographic resources, but I couldn’t not define the current one between them, so I tried the Credo’s encyclopedias, the first hit gave the answer through The Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia, when I checked the answer I found a link to site of the archbishop of Canterbury, that site made me sure that Rowan Williams is the current archbishop of Canterbury. - There is another encyclopedia has a clear answer to this question which is The Columbia Encyclopedia The answer to the question - The answer from The Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia “Home page of the Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Anglican church. Alongside a biography of Rowan Williams, the current incumbent, is a description of the role, duties, and history of the post, and information about the archbishop's residence at Lambeth Palace”. - The answer for the current archbishop of Canterbury in The Columbia Encyclopedia “The current archbishop of Canterbury is Rowan Williams...., archbishop of Canterbury, and six other bishops refused the king's order to read his 2

2. What University offered the first bibliographycourse and when? •
•
The analysis of the question This ready reference question could be answered by a fact book like the Famous Firsts Facts book. As I know that Melvil Dewey established the first courses of library science, in America, so I figured out that this American first fact book will be a suitable place to search for the answer to that question .This work presents 8549 “firsts” in American history, from the earliest known human activity to in the United States to current social, cultural, and scientific developments, up to and through the date of this copy of the book( 2006) Since that reference book is arranged alphabetically under the main subject headings, then sub – heading, so I had to search its subject index for the word ” Bibliography” which could referred me to the right page inside the book. I searched there but I couldn’t find the answer to that question in that edition, I found out about many first course in Book, biology and also the first library school was 1887in NY, but no first bibliography course. The Answer:
One of my classmates found the answer in the edition of 1966, but I have no access to that old edition, her answer is “The first bibliography course “was offered in 1878 by the University of Michigan, at Ann Arbor. Raymond Cazallis Davis, the librarian, gave a lecture once a week during November and December.” I think that answer might not be correct, because the first library school was in 1887, at Colombia University in NY.

3. When and where was Senator Edward Kennedy born? I need some information about his life. •
The analysis of the question - This is one of the ready reference questions, I need a one of the national biographies( because I know that person is American) if I don’t know that I could search for world biography that could be searched easily by the name alphabetically ( Kenney, Edward) If we need just short biography it is available in lots of general biographies, like The Cambridge biographical encyclopedia , the average length of each entry is 70 words, and few entries had taken a full page. Also we could find the answer in one of Who’ who General biographies, or in America. We have to choose the most recent biography to get all information about his life. - If we need more depth information, there are Almanac of American Politics. It is a standard work in its field. In addition to offering overview articles of individual states and their congressional representation, the entries include photos and thumbnail sketches of the contemporary governors, congressmen and senators. But there is no available print copy , and the electronic online version is available to subscriber only. -
•
I chose this biography Who's Who in America. to search for Kennedy, Edward (Senator) the last print edition is not available in libraries; so I’ll have access to it through Buley library, it’s one of Credo’s biographies, Through Credo’s searching box I entered these terms( Kennedy, Edward, Senator) and limited the search result to biographies , I received a list of entries, from different biography resources one of them Who’s Who in America , and Who’s Who in the world, they both have the same entry about him in (231 words) and this is the longest entry about him comparing to other biographies and encyclopedias that listed information about him. By the way there is no online biography that mentioned any updated information about his death this year The answer to the question Kennedy, Ted (Edward Moore Kennedy) United States Senator from Massachusetts Mailing address: Office US Senate, 317 Russell Senate Bldg, Washington, DC 20510-0001 Additional address: Home PO Box 447, Hyannis Port, MA 02647-0000 E-mail:

4. What information should be included in the first paragraph of the minutes of a meeting? •
The analysis of the question - This is a ready-reference question. It could be answered by a guidebook, handbook, or manual that provides us with information about different types of writing styles, or how to prepare a business document or other document in different subject. -
As we evaluated manuals and handbooks reference book, I think the “The Chicago manual of style” is the best manual to look for the answer, it is the essential guide to writing and the publication process for authors, editors, proofreaders, indexers, copyrighters, designers, and publishers in any field.
-
I searched through the index for the word minute , I found it minute (of the meeting) It referred me to section 15/ 279, there I found the answer

Buley Electronic Resources Questions 1. In what ways does the meaning of “Device” differ from “Contrive”? • The analysis of the question – What type of question is, what resource is needed- Catalog, type of Database? -
This question is a ready-reference question. It can be answered by a dictionary. We can look up the definition of both word and see the difference between them. There are many dictionaries available in the library databases at Buley.
• The selected resource and why I searched Credo database for its dictionaries, it has different dictionaries, and can search any of them. I also tried Oxford dictionary through the library databases. It’s a reliable dictionary for English word. • The search Strategy – Terms – Search statement with search terms -
I searched both word together ( device , Contrive) to see is there is any dictionary combines the meaning of both word together , I received the first hit from The Macquarie Dictionary, it’s for the definition of contrive, and it mention the word device in one of the meaning.
-
I tried to search for the meaning of device in the same dictionary The Macquarie Dictionary.hat could compare between different words as easy as I thought.
-
I tried Oxford dictionary to make sure that my explanation to the difference between both word are right and did search for the definition of both word and get the conclusion
-
I compare between the two sources meanings and found an answer from my point of view. 7

• The answer to the question - Cut and Paste the answer into the document From The Macquarie Dictionary: Device : ( noun) an invention or contrivance , or it ‘s a plan or scheme for effecting a purpose. Verb( devise) Contrive : verb (t) to plan with ingenuity; devise; invent. From Oxford : Device : The action of devising, contriving, or planning; the faculty of devising, inventive faculty; invention, ingenuity. Now arch. and rare. (orig. devis). Contrive : To invent, devise, excogitate with ingenuity and cleverness (any plan or purpose). Then the difference between them is that device is the action of planning, (it is noun) and contrive is to plan (verb) and the way that contrive might be differ from device is that contrive is planning with ingenuity and cleverness. • The proper bibliographic citation for the resource; if the URL is too long, shorten it using “TinyUrl” technique. device. This bibliographic question could be answered from any bibliographic resources that list information about published book one of bibliographic resources in Buley databases. • The selected resource and why Book index with review is one of EBSCO databases bibliographic resources could be helpful to find the information we need to answer that Question. It is one of the best bibliographic resources. Book in print didn’t have the answer for that question, although it suppose to be better in answering the book available in the market. • The search Strategy – Terms – Search statement with search terms -
I entered these search terms “African Writers series” into the searching box in that Book Index.
-
I received many title of this series’ books, All these books are by African writers, and the series’s publisher is “Heinemann”. All the prices and other information available at that index too, but I found most of these titles are outof- print , so you’ll not be able to buy them if there are no available copies, so if you just want to buy any books by African writers, we could search the same series for books by the same African Author, we’ll have books by the same African writers’ name even if they are not published in the same series.

I clicked on one name of those authors to find another in print books for him and I chose one of them.
