ENERGY STAR® Certification for Affordable Housing—$300 To encourage cost effective energy reduction through the use of energy efficient building construction practices in newly constructed Affordable Housing units. Must be a newly constructed single or multi-family home built for a State Certified Affordable Housing Program. Home must meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® standards and receive certification. Ratings must be conducted by a Florida State Certified HERS Rater. Rebate form must be completed and turned in to GRU Conservation Services along with a copy of the “Confirmed” rating within 90 days of completion of construction. Rebate will be issued in the form of a check to the builder or developer.

Restrictions—Limit one rebate per newly constructed single or multi-family Affordable Housing unit Duct Leak Repair Rebate—up to $375 (residential locations only)

To encourage cost effective energy reduction through the use of professional duct leak repair. Must have an existing central air conditioning system. Duct system must be thoroughly inspected and repaired; this includes air handler and all duct work. Repairs must be done by a GRU Partnering Contractor who is Florida State Certified Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation (HARV) or mechanical contractor. Ducts must be sealed using mastic or a combination of mastic, pressure sensitive foil tape (UL 181AP) or heat sensitive foil tape (UL 181AH). If foil tape is used it must be applied in a manner such that the duct board scrim pattern is visible through the tape. Itemized invoice and GRU Duct Repair Form are required.

Restrictions—Limit one rebate per system, maximum 3 systems per house Refrigerator Buyback and Recycling Rebate—$75 (residential locations only)

To encourage the removal of older, less efficient secondary refrigerators and freezers that place create increased energy use during peak hours. Valid for refrigerators, freezers or combination units that are 10 cubic feet or larger, and are in working order (not valid for dorm-sized refrigerators). Old units must be removed from the home and proof of removal and destruction is required.

Restrictions—Limit two rebates per location High Efficiency Central Air Conditioning Rebate—up to $550

To encourage cost effective energy reduction through the use of central air conditioners that are more efficient than those currently required by Florida Energy Efficiency Code for Buildings. Valid on units 5 tons or smaller. Must have a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 15 or greater and an HSPF (Heating Season Performance Factor) of 8.2. Must be ENERGY STAR qualified. Manual J Calculation, copy of receipt of purchase and ARI Certification of Performance are required. Must be purchased and installed by a GRU Partnering Contractor who is a State of Florida Certified Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation (HARV) or mechanical contractor. $300—Standard 15 SEER or greater $550—Super SEER Air Conditioners that are equipped with variable speed or multi-stage compressors (15 SEER or greater).

Restrictions—Limit three rebates per location

The following GRU Rebates are restricted to one rebate per location:

High Efficiency Room Air Conditioning Rebate—$150

To encourage the replacement of inefficient room air conditioners with new higher efficiency models which use less energy and could lead to lower electric bills. Valid on units 10,000 BTU or larger. Must have an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 10.7 or greater. Must be ENERGY STAR qualified. Must have existing room air conditioner in use. Must deliver old unit to designated pick up area and exchange for proof of destruction. Proof of destruction and a receipt for the new unit are required. Unit may be installed by homeowner.

Heat Recovery Unit Rebate—$155 (residential locations only)

To encourage installation of Heat Recovery Units (HRU) to utilize the wasted heat generated by the central air conditioner to preheat water. Must have a central air conditioner and an electric water heater. Installation must be done by a Florida state licensed Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioner (HVAC) or mechanical contractor. A copy of the contractor’s invoice for the product is required.

Added Insulation Rebate—$0.125 per square foot up to $375

To encourage the installation of insulation in existing single-family homes and small businesses. Minimum installation levels required over or under air conditioned space are R-19 in the attic or R-11 under raised flooring according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Proof of purchase is required. If installed by the customer, a cutout section from the insulation packaging showing the product name and description and a copy of the receipt must be submitted. If installed by a contractor, the installation details (to include depth, type and density of insulation) must be itemized on the invoice.

Restrictions—Rebate does not apply to wall insulation

The following GRU Rebates are restricted to one rebate per Customer:

Central Air Conditioner Maintenance Rebate—$55 (residential locations only)

To encourage annual planned maintenance of existing central air conditioner units to ensure proper and efficient operation. Valid only on central air conditioning units. Maintenance must be performed by a GRU Partnering Contractor. A copy of receipt for maintenance and copy of service checklist or notation by contractor stating “GRU’s service requirements have been met” are required.

Reflective Roof Coating Rebate—$70 (residential locations only)

To encourage the application of reflective roof coating to mobile home roofs. Mobile home must have air conditioning. A copy of the receipt for materials is required. Roof coating may be applied by the homeowner. Random onsite verification may be performed.

RESTRICTIONS Form must be completed/signed by the GRU Electric Customer of Record. Additional restrictions may apply. Rebates subject to change without notice. Rebates subject to approval and are contingent upon fund availability. Rebate will be issued in the form of a CREDIT on the utility bill unless specified otherwise. All rebate forms and supporting documentation due within 30 days of installation or service unless otherwise indicated.
