A critical comparison of the approach of the characterising weave by Ashenhurt , Brierley & Milasius Ashenhurt calculated weave factor with the help of average float length F1/2 = (R2/1)/ ( t1/2 ) Ashenhurt did not consider weave in his formula. But Brierley showed that type of weave is also a deciding point for calculating weave factor A. Brierley suggested that the weave factor should be evaluated by a parameter F m i.e. not only by the average of float value F but by a power factor m & m depending on the type of weave. According to brierley the weave factors of 2/2 twill, 2/2 hopsack,2/2 warp rib & 2/2 weft rib possessing the same value of F, but the values of m is different & then value of F m is different . So weave factor (F m) is different. Selivanov & skliannikov first time gave new concept of free fields, space fields etc. and found weave factor ‘C’ named as weave tenseness factor. Brierley’s fabric weave factor Fm has been derived for whole weave . Similarly skliannikov’s weave factor ‘C’ is derived for whole weave. But milasius found that any particular fabric property may better perform in one direction only either warp or weft. Even milasius proved it by taking different types of fabric like- 2/2 warp rib , 2/2 weft rib , plain weave, twill 3/1 etc. He showed that fabrics are having considerable differencein crimp % in warp &weft direction due to different weave factors in warp & weft direction.
