Royal Yachting Association (the Governing Body for British Sailing) Responsible for several PR accounts that included a major role during the Athens 2004 Olympics. Assisted on government-orientated initiatives helping formulate and implement PR strategies, whilst at the same time managing the administrative workload for my team. Editor of RYA Briefing; a magazine produced to improve internal communications with affiliated clubs and classes. Also a regular contributor to RYA magazine (circulation: 150,000). Organised from the outset the RYA Communication Awards; managing budgets, securing celebrity endorsement, organising a judging panel of renowned journalists. Responsible for the administration. Devised and initiated an imaginative PR strategy, involving event planning during the “Raymarine Sailor of the Year Awards”. Also maximized RYA exposure in the media via the awards and managed the celebrity endorsement. During the Olympics, managed and implemented the RSS reader. Wrote the daily press releases on each Olympic class for international distribution, liaised with news and sports editors to maximise the Olympians presence in local media. Organised the internal PR promoting and highlighting staff involvement in the Olympics. Led video link ups with the sailors and senior staff members. Part of the team pushing Olympians into the lifestyle media, working closely with a contracted publicist. Experienced in crisis management planning. Subsequently on call every hour during Olympics.

 Productive and fluent communication with national sports desks and editors meant maximum publicity for sponsors and the RYA corporate image.  Assisted in the hospitality of journalists and corporate sponsors.  Compiled and submitted a Monthly Marketing report to the General Manager. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ACHIEVEMENTS (CONTINUED)  Wrote quality procedures and potential market research proposals.  Experienced in vigorous time management after handling many PR accounts that included securing prime time TV coverage for British Youth Sailing and the Olympic National Ranking Series. Also secured a monthly feature for the Marlow Award.  Extremely experienced in event management: Organised the RYA Awards where HRH The Princess Royal presented the prizes. Had to work closely with the Royal press office and security.  Providing administrative support involved media monitoring. As well as taking daily cuttings I was tasked with evaluating our coverage working closely with Durrants, a media evaluation agency. Website Development: Responsible for general marketing, I.T. tasks / database management and web development in liaison with internal and external suppliers. Drawing up procedures and market research proposals.  Updated data and general content information on the company website as needed.  Issued monthly mail shot.  Responded to requests from website regarding brochures, product information, etc.  Daily uploads of the latest news articles onto the website and also the companies satellite sites.  Database management - created, updated and amended data.

On the floor, selling subscriptions to the public and also managing the day-to-day staffing duties and rotas. Interests and Pastimes: Chairman/ Vice-President for the British University Sailing Association. Chaired the committee responsible for 40 affiliated clubs and over 3000 sailors. Chaired the senior committee and initiated a 5 year strategic review. Managed 5 National Championships each year and as chairman implemented 3 new major national events into the calendar. Communications Officer for RS Race Boats (largest dinghy association in the UK) Travelling, (South America, Australasia and South East Asia).
